A little ratings relief coming for WTVN?

I predict WTVN will bounce up some in the ratings that come out soon. IMO this is hardly a bold prediction, though, given (A) Regression to the mean (how can they go any lower?) and (B) Big political news including the showdown over Obamacare leading to the Government shutdown and specter of debt default; the associated Tea Party excitement over Sen Ted Cruz; and the badly-botched Obamacare marketplace rollout. The day 1 ratings sure seem to show consistent bumps for the commercial News/Talk (= conservative talk) stations in the biggest markets.

Anyone predict otherwise, i.e., that TVN won't show a bump, or might even continue to slide?

I predicted two years ago, after the retirement of Bob Conners that WTNV would see its lowest ratings ever. It appears I got that one right. Also predicted we would see a WTVN-FM simulcast by the end 2013 or early 2014. That prediction appears its not going to
happen in late 2013 or early 2014. So, WTVN won't see any ratings relief coming in the way of an FM simulcast any time soon. All of
the CC Columbus FM stations are doing at least pretty good so there is no reason to sacrifice them for a WTVN-FM simulcast.

I think it's likely they will see an uptick for October.

Ratings released yesterday for the major markets showed an uptick in most markets for news talk in general. My guess is Columbus will follow the trend.

OSU football and related programming is in full swing. That should provide a bump. Last October was strong than September if memory serves me correctly. (Of course it was also a major election cycle.)

Certainly the budget situation could have brought some people home to talk radio over the past month.

And while Artie to a degree is correct, we don't know if Bob's retirement has caused the erosion in reported listeners or if other day parts are dragging the station down. It is Joel or evenings? Is it Beck or Joel. Is it Beck and Limbaugh or Joel. Is it Corby or Joel? We don't know, TVN ain't talking and no one is letting the info out. I'd love to be a fly on Mike Elliot/Mike Rafferty's wall when the numbers are released.

I wonder if they should have left 106.7 at 25,000 watts and used it for the simulcast?

I have trouble believing Beck and Joel aren't dragging the entire ship down with them. This morning Joel was talking to a guy who wrote a book about Big Ten schools and the author had very nice things to say about OSU. He was talking about how Ohio State has increased the quality of its students and educational profile to such a degree that it has truly earned the right to call itself THE Ohio State University. Also, he was talking about how OSU is now considered to be among the top 50 universities in the world and that Miami University is losing a lot of Ohio's elite students to Ohio State.

Ohio State was always a pretty good school, but it was never considered borderline elite like it is today.

Now, did Joel take pride in the achievements of our great institution? Did Joel talk about how having a highly respected institution bodes well for the local economy? Nope. Joel's insightful comment was that "there are a lot of people who wish we could go back to the old Ohio State." Great comment and insight, Joel! Who wants to be in the same league as the Michigans and the Stanfords and the Berkeleys of the world when we can be among the Wayne States and the Alabamas.

My point is that he always says dumbass things like that. I can't believe I'm the only one who gets turned off by him.

I don't see 'TVN coming back like it was.
Glenn Beck's ratings have been in a decline and has less relevance then he used to.
Joel is not a great listener and the interviews suffer.

A shake up is needed.

Beck needs to drop the Moreman talk. Huge turn-off. (Moreman misspelled on purpose. A previous post was booted by what I'm guessing is an automoderator?)

Too bad he isn't Christian, because except for the conspiracy theories, the tone and tenor of his show would fit right in with the Salem talk show line-up. I could see him as part of the lineup on "The Answer," though I doubt they would run someone who is so overtly Moreman.

I personally don't like all the "movements" he's trying to start. I feel sorry for the people who go to his rallies - I just can't help feeling how much they are being used to make money for him.

I think Beck is cleared on at least 2 Salem talk (Answer) stations.

I could be wrong about this, but this is surprising to me because the impression I get is that most Christian types have to hold their nose at even the thought of Moremanism. But then again, he isn't part of their in-house stable of stars (Medved, Miller, etc.); if his ratings keep declining, that's where he might end up? I generally don't mind religious people, but he's too much for me. It just isn't appropriate for a mainstream news/talk station. I liked Beck much better when he used to be funny.

What exactly is Mormon talk? i listen to Beck almost every day. and he does mention from time to time that he is a mormon but to me its irellevent as it is not what the show is about, and if you were listening you might realize that the show is more of a history lesson political conversation that a religious program. Often the banter between Beck and his co hosts is some of the funniest stuff on radio these days, sad to say. religion comes into the conversation mostly in reference to the Founding Fathers of this country.

But I agree there is that tangent he does go off on on occasion with the crying and praying that i agree takes the show right off the tracks. But remember his fans are LOYAL, and they tend to support his sponsors. Remember when TVN tried to cut his show an hour earlier this year? My guess thats why he keeps the 400+ radio stations and on 2 Sirius/XM channels.

I listen to Beck somewhat mostly for the same reason I listen to Joel ... there is nothing else really on. If there were better options, I would dump them in a minute.

He reminds me a little bit of Dr. Laura, raised Catholic converted to Judaism and came across as kind of a holy-roller about it on the radio. Then I hear how she dumps Judaism and it kind of confirmed some of my initial gut feelings about her ... unhinged, unstable, flake, etc. Whenever I hear him go on and on about studying "Scripture" (I'm guessing it's the Book of Moreman because he doesn't say "Bible") I get kind of the same vibes.

I about fell off my chair laughing the other day when he was making catty remarks about Harry Reid and Orrin Hatch. He said something to the effect of it being okay for him to be catty about other Moremans, because he is one. (I guess it's like blacks being allowed to say the N-word to each other? LOL) Like Dr. Laura, he is another ex-Catholic ... I'm just waiting for the meltdown and re-conversion to the faith of his fathers!

Maybe, but he is a huge disappointment. When I first heard him in Tampa, I thought he was funny and entertaining as hell. I can't stand the guy these days ... so full of himself. Like Clint Eastwood once said, "Man's gotta know his limitations." Beck as Morning Zoo guy is great ... Beck as activist/emoter not so great.

I also enjoy the history lessons ... I just can't escape this feeling that I should take what he says with a grain of salt and that he doesn't know what he's talking about.

I think Beck is cleared on at least 2 Salem talk (Answer) stations.

Speaking of Salem, I wonder if "The Answer" is also eating into WTVN's ratings? A lot of the same shows are on WHTH and WLOH, so somebody most listen to them.
