A look back at Not So Silent Bob's 2006 Predictions

I enjoyed reading the 2005 Year In Review and was looking at the 2006 Predictions from notsosilentbob. They were:

2006 Predictions:

Format change for 106.7 to Active Rock, once Cumulus gets those COL's sorted out and can give some more power to WNFN

107.5 becomes Kiss FM and Clear Channel goes on an all-out marketing blitz. The station will rise to the top 3 again if this happens.

The Zone will continue to suck, even though they'll get The Fan's only listener (Jetfli) back.

South Central will continue to do some format tweaking with Mix & Jack, to try to get Mix's numbers back up.

(getting bold here)

Near the end of the year, Citadel will finally sell to Cumulus and 103.3 & 104.5 will come into the fold, and Cumulus will sell off 92.1 & 106.7. The Active Rock format recently put into place on 106.7 will move and bring back Nashville's Pure Rock 103 KDF. WTN will again become an all-purpose talk station, where George P. & crew will return to afternoons. 104.5 will assume 92Q's old format.

As of December 12th let's review and "predict" some 2007

1) No 2006 format change on WNFN (yet) Did we ever get a final answer on to WNSR suit?

2) No Nashville KISS FM (yet) in 2006.

3) The Zone continued

4) SC "tweaking" ? Not necessarily. Mix took a hit but SC still takes home the biggest pieces of the pie

5) Just a couple of weeks for the cumulus/citadel rumor to come true...it's been floating for a LONG time!

The Year in review headlines included:

Micheal Dickey returns to Tara...Steve Dickert takes the helm

Steve Gill moves to AM radio

Coyote and Cathy and Bobby get it again

John King in at Cromwell...Rich out

Free Beer and Hot Wings take the air...B&T switch to 97.1

Clear Channel cut staff...restructures...Google buyout rumored in the offing

South Central stays the course

Other headlines? Pls add....

Predictions for 2007? Please post.... KDF will return to rock doesn't count....

Surely you know that the Citadel/Cumulus thing was a rumor started in a certain Atlanta office. But, corporate decisions, sell-offs, and buyouts will bring about some changes in Middle Tennessee radio during 2007. Who will purchase the Clear Channel Cookeville properties, and will there be any tie to what's going on in the Nashville market when they do? Will there be an application filed to move any one of those properties further west? When the ABC Citadel merger finally consumates in the Summer, will we see any changes or program shuffling here? Since we'll likely hear the FCC's decision this year on ownership, I doubt you will see any effects until 2008. But will this effect the ABC Citadel merger? And how much of a waiting game will Big Radio play during 2007 to bide time as they wait for changes to occur? It will be interesting to watch to see who bides and who conducts business as usual.

I predict 97.1's ratings will drop like a rock. A great pool to have with your co-workers would be to take bids on how quickly they change the format of 97.1 to better appeal to the audience for Bob & Tom. I also don't think the Buzz will lose a lot of audience because of the loss of Bob & Tom.

I certainly would like to see Coyote and Cathy and Bobby return to Nashville airwaves. Would their Oldies audience follow them to country? Based on nationwide trends, I don't see a new Oldies station on the horizon, unless it's a small or fringe signal.

I predict we'll see 102.5 climb a bit in the ratings. I predict the Fan and Lightning will continue to underachieve, but the owners will continue to operate them as is.

And finally, if I can stretch a bit, I predict Legends 930 in Waynesboro will add some current country and flip to WWON 930 The Farm. ;D

jetfli? I've got to know how you know that? January 8th is the day.

Thanks for the plug,

Owner
Legends 930 W-WON

You know how it is -- no secret's safe on The Farm, 'cause even the corn has ears!

Best wishes on your format flip! Hope things go smoothly!

I predict that'll be the only flip (The Farm) in 2007. Except maybe, but probably not, for the Fan...which, judging
by all numerical factors, doesn't qualify as a REAL radio station.

My 2007 predictions...

Steve Gill will continue to master the art of interviewing himself.

EMT's will be called to 106.7's studio to resuscitate the hosts of "The Sports Guys" when they mistake Boots Donelly's heavy breathing for a heart attack.

Venus will give way to a new format (starts with P rhymes with Venus) featuring HOT TALK and the return of Howard Stern to terrestrial radio. "You're listening to Nashville's 'Big One!"

Kevin Miller will continue bringing in top notch experts on breast feeding (did anyone hear that last week...stimulating talk radio indeed!).

G Gordon will have a new stacked and packed calendar sponsored by Red Stag.

Coyote will find a new job until the station flips to a new Broadway Hits format with Brad Schmidt doing mornings.

Frank Wychek and Mark Howard will both get laryngitis and The Zone will have record numbers in morning drive! My favorite Frank moment..."you can visit their web site at w w w w (yes...FOUR W'S!!!).

Phil Valentine will spend two whole segments NOT talking about illegal immigration.

Dave Ramsey will spend two segments talking about illegal immigration.

Jerry House will spend two segments talking about Dave Ramsey talking about illegal immigration.

Mix 92.9 will ask what illegal immigration is.

I predict the sports show to end all shows will finally hit the airwaves.

Are you ready for...

THE BLAKE FULTON AND DARREN MCFARLAND SHOW

How about this concept? "Expect the Interruption" starring Mark Howard and Darren McFarland. Kornheiser and Wilbon would have interruption envy as Nashville's two co-hosts continually cut off the other's sentences.

Now THAT is funny! And true! Seriously...those guys cannot keep their mouths shut sometimes. They need to buy into the idea that less truly can be more!

Darren McFarland's constant "butting-in" wouldn't be nearly as annoying if he actually had something worthwhile to say or if he actually had an inkling of information that was somewhat factual and accurate instead of being completely WRONG and/or JUST ECHOING his fellow on-air personalities.

JWK, Are you kidding about Darren? He is the best part of that program. In fact, several people were hoping that he would branch off and get his own show. He is very intelligent and knowledgable. Not to mention, a genuine fan, which is key. Now while Willie is a nice guy, his contribution is questionable. But Darren has been backbone of the show for some time now and kept the numbers at a reasonable level during the entire book that Plaster was out sick or whatever.

Is RadioWarrior really Darren McFarlands secret Radio-info board name?

Darren has been backbone of the show for some time now
- are you kidding me? Willy is the only reason I can even stand to listen to that show. Darren is a bufoon who, in my opinion, rarely has anything intelligent to say exept "when's dinner?"

I do agree with this though
several people were hoping that he would branch off and get his own show
- if that means him leaving the market then I am ALL for that!

Goodness, Signal. Such hostility. I don't know if any of the plaster crew actually looks or cares about this board, but I'm not a citadite. I just know better than to make ANY comments about my own people. But Darren, if you do read this, rest assured that you have plenty of fans, which of course you don't need anyone to tell you since you just got that juicy new contract! Congratulations.
