A look back at WBZ in 1988 ( Peter Meade and David Brudnoy)

I believe that Brudnoy was so close to Peter and thought so much of him, that he willed him his Commonwealth Ave Condo.

I miss listening to both of them. Brudnoy was the thinking mans talk host and Peter is one of the most politically connected, respected and well liked person in Boston Public Affairs. I filled in as Meade's BZ Radio producer and you could not have asked for more pleasant and professional guy to work with.

Wow are you sure about that? I would doubt it for several reasons?

It was a good period for music, but I listened to a lot of David. 1988 would have been at the height of the HIV crises I would think?
I don't know if DB was positive at that time but you wouldn't have known it even listening to all the programming he was doing. After five years a lot still wasn't known about it.

There was a rumor (?) that a 'BZ newsman wouldn't use a studio that had been occupied by a HIV pos. guest. He was fired. Don't know who?

Peter and his wife live in David's apartment at the Vendome.

David's medical expenses must have been catastrophic (no matter how well he was insured).

There's some aspects of his Wiki that seem a bit off to me as well. Did Ms. Kennedy ever work at 'BZ as his producer?

Maybe I should have been more clear, I said I believe that David left his condo to Peter and his wife ( For years, both provided great support in many ways to Brudnoy.) I do not know this for a fact, but I do know that Peter and his wife live in the condo that Brudnoy owned, lived in and did his show from. I was told by someone who was very close to to Brudnoy, that David left Peter and his wife the Vendome Condo.

I still see Peter and events from time to time but it is not the type of question I would ask.

When David first suspected something seriously wrong, he self-financed his initial consults and treatments. He wanted to control the narrative, and knew that, being a Boston celebrity, once insurance paperwork got into the pipeline there would be no way of keeping his ailments under the radar.

TSB

David for years wanted a memorial at the Vendome to honor the firemen killed when the building was being converted to condos but building management fought it. After David's death Peter took over the fight and finally got it done.

Fascinating comments re: Brudnoy and self-paying insurance to avoid publicity.

Even more interesting that Ted Kennedy made a deal with Nancy Landon Kassenbaum to lead the way in prohibiting the disclosure of medical records.

Yup. A liberal joined with a conservative to protect our rights.

Oh me. Oh my.
