A lyrical tribute to WHYL 960

(To the tune of "It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas")

It's beginning to sound a lot like Christmas
On my AM band
WHYL
Their format has gone to hell
And the caroling is getting out of hand

It's beginning to sound a lot like Christmas
And a huge sigh of relief
Somewhere there's a guy named Lloyd
And he's happy to avoid
All the bullcrap there

The blue-hairs are pissed 'bout the music they've missed
And they switched to WHP
960 no-showed at the Senior Expo
Looks like damage control to me
It goes to show you can't live on point-four consistently

It's beginning to look a lot like failure
Ratings in the tank
The imaging just plain sucked
And sales couldn't make a buck
So this Thanksgiving there was nobody there to thank

It's beginning to seem a tad regretful
Let us bow our heads
'Cause I haven't laughed this way
Since MST3K
Now that 960's dead

You didn't mention the jingles I mixed.

You didn't mention the music rotation.

You didn't mention how we changed the common point reactance on the phasor for more sexy ohmmage.

You didn't mention the optimod tweaks for better sound during the day.

You didn't mention how I rebuilt the entire output network on the transmitter (part 2 is coming up...wooo...this time I'm inviting everyone to assist).

You didn't mention how clean the coffee machine is.

You didn't mention the AMAZING website I did in about 8 minutes.

You didn't even mention how I changed the picture in my signature to reflect the change.

I'm starting to think you're ignoring me. This is bad for my delicate ego. Wah.
______________

I will try to keep this short.

That was stupid.

I really wonder if the people who have real CLASS in that group of yours, Joe, Lisa, Robert, and some of the others know what an (fill in the blank) you really are on this board.
I could go into a long rant, with tasteless catch words and descriptions of the lowest forms of human life to describe what you really are, but I tend to always take the high road, especially in business.

YOU never know, (ie: your clients) who is reading what you post.

Trash talk gets you nowhere in this world, and ends in self destruction. But, as life goes, so goes radio. The people who really work hard to keep WHP at number one should be commended on a job well done. There's nothing better then seeing radio done well. The rest of the stations learn, change, and remake themselves to be competitive, in hopes of knocking the top dog off the top for awhile. It's why alot of us are in this business, for clean, fun, competition.

(I know you will not understand this sentence, but I will type slowly so maybe it will sink in:

(A radio station does NOT have to be Number 1 in the Ratings to make a healthy return on Profit) but thats the beauty of the radio business.

In all the years I have been in this business, I have only met one other person who felt that hatred of a competitor, taunting of a competitor, kicking someone when they are down while they are making an excellent effort to regain a foothold in the market was an acceptable way to talk about a competitor that was going thru a rough time. That was, until I have seen your posts, thinkingman.

The person I knew had to quit his job in radio, ( I think he works as a toll taker on the New York System now) because he was spouting off vile crap about a competing station which I worked for at the time. His biggest client was informed of his rants, and the client cancelled his yearly contract, because the client felt that anyone who would waste the time and effort to belittle a struggling competitor, was not the kind of person that the client wanted to be associated with.

Hence, what comes around, goes around my dear friend. AND YOU, are nearing that turn in life. Hang on, cause the rides gonna get a little wild.

Here's hoping everyone had a great Thanksgiving Holiday.

Merry Chirstmas

When a poster feels the need to create another handle so someone agrees with their views, you know they're slightly delusional.

Or an a-hole.

FOX News Alert: YOU SUCK!!! Ya like apples?

Dear Ms. CubPa, or if I may call you Bear,

I read every word of your post, and I felt that surge from inside, that surge when one is confronted with the chilly truth of someone else's perspective drawn upon facts rather than sentiment. It's the dawning realization of one's worldview being altered forevermore because one couldn't (or wouldn't) acknowledge the validity of another's opinion.

I thought of my roster of clients, those fine ladies and gentlemen who place faith in a very flawed system of evaluating just how many people are listening to a station. They serve as my very lifeblood, paying my every expense in their endeavors to better cater to their clientele. Would they appreciate my lyrical tribute? Would their children? Their children's children? Could I pick up the telephone and call their places of business, hoping to extend to them an attractive offer, an alternative marketing plan, or are more effective slant to their existing buy? Could I accept my handsome commissions with nary a concern to their appraisal of my character and integrity as an account executive?

Ms. CubPa, I stand before you and I tell you, "Yes, madam, I could."

Why?

Because I am not a salesman. I have no clients.

Merry Chirstmas (sic) to you too.

Mr. AndPad, or may I call you Pen,

BobAltimari has been a registered user of this message board since September of 2004. This is well before I'd ever heard of radio-info.com. His posts number nearly 600, and deal with such varied stations as WTTM, WLEV, Q102, WDOX, New Jersey 101.5, WPHL, and "Double T" 1680, in addition to our beloved Harrisburg-area outlets.

This is the 56th Thinkingman post since my registration in May of 2005, and the furthest-flung station I've commented on is WLAN-AM in Lancaster.

Obviously, BobAltimari and Thinkingman are not the same person, and nobody is creating new handles to foster the illusion of support.

Can I point out that if one of the stations own employees (Sambuca) isn't all that riled up about this, (BTW; he took it with the grace and humor befitting a moderator of these boards...) why is everyone else?

Someone needs more fiber

If that was short, I'd hate to see long.

Some radio people love to dish it out, but they can't take it. Anybody says anything short of high praise of radio or anyone in it, and they immediately go into personal attack mode.

I notice they are usually the same ones who sit around radio stations kvetching but God forbid anybody should go on a radio board and say the same thing.

And they always trot out the same old line:

- They know who the poster really is.
- The poster is bitter and/or angry. (Employment in radio tends to have that effect on people.)
- The person is no longer in radio. (Must be they could not cut it. Why would anyone ever want to leave radio as long as they can live in their parents' basement?)
- It is WRONG to say anything bad about radio (OK to say bad stuff about everything else.) Saying anything bad about radio will make you go insane and put hair on your palms.
- It is especially wrong to be funny cause people to laugh at radio. God will get you.

This biz does bring out the worst in people.

That being said:

"The radio business is a cruel and shallow trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs.....There's also a negative side." "

Dear Thinkingman

Its MR Bearcub to you.

Alas, IF you are TRULY in radio, be it be a salesperson, on air, engineer, reception, traffic, or weekend board-op, you DO have clients. If you haven't gotten that yet, well, Im not sure how to respond.
As for taking it easy, trust me, the post was typed, and retyped five times, with each time the deletion of vile comments that are not worth the time or effort.
I just love this business, and wish EVERYONE knew how to play fair.

Have a nice day.

You know that Bob's message was posted even after my reply came down.

I'm waiting for your sock puppet, pastywhitetighties, to send me a reply.

Hahahahahahahahaa. Thanks I needed that.
______________

That was the product of FIVE revisions? Good Lord. I suppose it enjoyed vast improvement with each re-write, eh? Heaven help us if we had to drag ourselves through the first draft. You spent an awful lot of time on "vile comments that are not worth the time or effort."

During the course of your falling in love with this business, you should have learned this: Jokes are part of the competition that you love so dearly. They improve morale and secure a sense of teamwork. Nobody was sabotaging transmitter sites, erasing files, e-mailing viruses, defacing billboards, slandering, or libeling. Thus, nobody is playing unfairly. You'll hear far worse in the break room of any radio station in America. So take a deep breath, and enjoy the smooth sounds of the holidays on Mix 106.7!!! Here's a little Mariah Carey!

Boy, I'll say. that privacy policy ( which myst be a steaming load of Hooey )has holes in it big enough to drive a Buick through. I suspect that someone on here, who has knowledge, has "outed" me and violated the "privacy policy"
I don't know how else I could have been found out by management.
what good is a policy when the moderators succumb to pressure and break their own rule. I equate this to when the police break the laws they themselves uphold.

Intriguing. I'm very much looking forward to Sam Buca's response to this. Sam? Your thoughts?
