I hate to take up for suits but i bet it was more a corporate decision from texas then a local one micromanaging at it best!!!

You're partially correct. The mandate to downsize comes from General Hogan in the form of a dollar figure or body count. The local cowboy gets to pick those to be sacrificed. One must assume they enjoy this or they would move on to a real radio company, not a slaughter house.

Knowing Kelly, This is the hardest part of his job..... He knows he has to do what is ordered from the top of the chain... It's not easy being a cluster chief... You sometimes have to do what you don't want to do... Time for a couple of beers at "The Cellar" in Carbondale, to mull over who stays and who goes... Hang in there KC....

Give me a break.. Kelly Carls is a joke!

It''s like the old saying, "go to bed with dogs and you wake up with fleas". Anybody with any knowledge of the radio business knows that working for CC is most likely not a long term proposition. The firings happen every year.

More and more companies have taken a leaf out of the CC handbook and this is now common practice industry wide. How very sad :'(

I have to agree here. I worked for a group that used to be in town a few years ago. There is very little decision making on the local level. Everything has to go through corporate. Even what we put on our RDS displays came down from corporate.

Humm? He seems to have weathered the storm and been with the group quite a while... Kelly's 'smarts' are beyond most of us common radio geeks.... I know from experience... He's sure done better than most of us... Maybe we are full of envy???? Middle man for the great "CC" is something I would hesitate to be..... Money would have to be huge... Just my angle from working and keeping an eye on him since our Carbondale/SIU days....

Kelly Carls and Bill Gentry...what a pair...1 more and you'd have all the Stooges. The only thing keeping them up at night is putting on all that chapstick. Kissing all that svpppvppppvppvppv ass is exhausting...and hard on the lips. Good luck to them. They've got a lousy roster of PD's and a bunch of stations in decline. What happens when you run out of people to fire boys? Might have to flame a rocket up your own ass. But that'll come later after you've blown out every decent player on your team and your left with the mindless lemmings that won't know bullshit when they hear it. Oh, wait, that's pretty much where you are now. What a way to make a living. One consolation about having them around though, all that hot air really keeps you warm during a cold Kentucky winter. Ram it.

;D You can tell you've got a good topic going when two peoples in a row create a new radio-info.com account just so they can post on it.

Nice post #1 guys. LOL.

I've never known Kelly well, but I've known him for 26 years and from two other markets. He didn't strike me as the kind of guy that likes firing people.

I've never met a PD yet who felt that if he had a few less employees things would be better, though I've met a GM or two who felt that way.

But the bottom line is we all know it's a corporate thing. CC is firing people everywhere to improve their bottom line in the short term.

Pretty soon, it's going to come to the point where firing people to improve the bottom line will be like asking an annorexic to go on a diet.
