A missed opportunity.

When WWBB (B-101) jettisoned the oldies format and replaced it with a Classic Hits format, they could have moved the former oldies format to WWBB's HD-2 stream and provided another internet stream as well. But, they've put a "comedy" format on the HD-2 instead. (Many times, the HD-2 stream is not activated half the time, anyway... so no loss there.) 99.7 would be a likely candidate for a switch to oldies. 99.7's signal, while not being very powerful in the first place, still covers a good chunk of the Providence ADI. Face it, there is not enough of a market in the Providence area to handle 2 sports FM stations (never mind the AM'er on 790). WEEI-FM 103.7 is, hands-down, the winner with sports with it's more powerful STEREO signal. When B-101 dumped oldies, it left a lot of listeners without a station to call their own. There's money to be made in oldies, provided you do it in such a way as it is a mass-appeal station that "happens to play oldies". 50's, 60's and 70's if done right can get some results 12-55. WICE-FM?

Just playing "devil's advocate here". How bout when the Hispanic Company's LMA is up with WKKB 100.3, some other company LMA it from Davidson and launch an oldies format on the station?

Now THAT would be interesting! Since 'KKB does cover the market pretty well, it could fit the bill. There is a market for oldies, provided they do it with "mass appeal" flavor, running it as a station that "just happens to play the oldies". But, who knows.
