I'd be ok with moving small AM stations (graveyarders, high-band less-than-1kW, etc) to an expanded FM band that replaces TV 5 and 6, but not the bigger stations. I'd prefer in most cases that stations not do anything to reduce their coverage radius in any direction (except in cases where it's necessary to allow another station to upgrade facilities or a new station to come on.)

If some of those stations moved to FM, I'd no longer be able to hear them in Mt Helix area on the south & east side of some hills. Following is a list of ones I currently cannot receive anyway, from your list:
77.4 KALI West Covina ex-AM 900
77.8 KAZN Pasadena ex-AM 1300
80.5 KLTX Long Beach ex-AM 1390
80.9 KMRB San Gabriel ex-AM 1430
82.2 KTYM Inglewood ex-AM 1460
82.9 KVNR Santa Ana ex-AM 1480
83.8 KYPA Los Angeles ex-AM 1230
(Of the ones I can receive, some DO require the select-a-tenna to even be detected, I'll admit that. :))

Also, IMO, whatever all-digital mode AM goes to (not the hybrid digital+analog, but digital only), should have its clear dropout-free coverage radius using a cheap receiver and almost no antenna be equivalent to what its analog coverage was to where a pro could barely detect it using a beverage antenna and high-end military-grade receiver, assuming NOTHING else (no other stations, no RFI, etc) was on the air at the time. Also, I'd prefer it to either be backward compatible with existing analog radios, or, digital receivers priced such that if you sold your current analog receiver and bought an equal quality & featured digital receiver, you'd break even.
