Q100 doesn't have a lot to worry about at this point. Yes, Power 96-1 will take some share from Q simply by being there and being a pure CHR, and will force Q to give away money and probably lower advertising rates to some extent.
The one-two punch of Elvis Duran and then Ryan Seacrest is not going to beat Q100. Power probably would get away with Seacrest if he was surrounded by good content. But, The Bert Show is one of the best in the country. They will never get near the Bert Show with Elvis Duran.
Some markets do get away with Elvis and then Seacrest: Y100/Miami gets away with Elvis because of NY transplants and no direct CHR competition. Duran does well at Z100/NY because he's based there, and the show has an NY sound. Q102 gets away with him because it has no direct CHR competition, and Elvis used to be there. Q94/Richmond and 96.5 Kiss/Cleveland do well with it because of no direct competition.
I'm going to guess that Clear Channel moved Elvis from Wild 105.7 because they know they need a morning show to establish Power 96-1, which is the more important station, and they're using Elvis Duran as a placeholder to take the pressure off finding a local show quickly.
I would like to make a suggestion. That Guy Kramer is the one show I know of that could really challenge Bert and peel younger listeners away from him. They led Island 106/Panama City to new ratings heights for several years. Then CBS Radio hired them to try to save a dying station in Tampa, 98.7 Play FM. But it was too late, and the station flipped to All Sports. Rumor is CBS is looking to place them at another station, but as far as I know, that hasn't happened yet.
The cast is Steve Kramer, Miguel Fuller and Holly O'Conner. They have phenomenal chemistry and are youthful and entertaining but not at all juvenile. It's ironic that you can hear the influence that The Bert Show has had on them. Steve Kramer is from Atlanta and started in radio as Bert's intern.
No, I am not their agent but just like to hear good radio and watch strong competition.
