A new Bull PD!

Just announced: it's Scott Lindy, former Snr VP of Country for Sirius, and former PD at WPOC Baltimore. Good guy, knows his stuff. This will be interesting. Starts Monday.

Here are more details I got from a Country Air Check email:

Lindy To WUBL: Former Sirius Sr. Country PD Scott Lindy is joining Clear Channel/Atlanta as Dir./Operations and will program Country WUBL. He succeeds Clay Hunnicutt, who was promoted to CC Regional SVPP in July (CAT 7/1). Lindy exited Sirius in September (BN 9/24) during the programming changes associated with the XM merger. His first day on the job is next Monday (1/19).

Interesting, this just before a reported C.C. restructuring and cut backs. I wonder what role he will have hiring a new morning show, which btw, seems to be taking a long time.

This is a smart and quality player. He if given resources can be effective, but for anyone, the KICKS heritage is too hard to overcome without doing something drastically different and better. Drastically different and better takes money and patience, two things lacking in our industry today. Welcome to atlanta scott.

Scott Lindy kept WPOC in my hometown of Baltimore at the top of the ratings for his 5 years as PD there.

WPOC was not one of the better-sounding country stations, but it didn't have to be. It had a great signal and virtually no direct competition. So in that sense, Lindy did what he needed to do.

Atlanta Market Manager Melissa Forrest has a reputation for being smart and focusing on programming. I assume she knew what she'd be getting before hiring Scott Lindy although I'm sure CC's regional programmers had a big say in this.

That ain't a bad hire...which shows maybe the Bull is in it to fight and win. But time and patience is indeed what it will take. A syndicated show in mornings won't work. Bringing in someone who's a "big" name within the industry but who's totally unknown to Atlanta listeners won't work. What will work (especially given Cadillac's strengths) is a charm offensive, which someone like Mike Stiles or Tripp West could pull off. But even that will take a time investment.

??? hold on ..... ???

Scott Lindy is awesome - but isn't the head guy there the best programming mind CC has ? How is it someone with his non-performance 1. Retains employment 2. Is left in charge of programming stations company wide, when the only "hands on lets see what you can really do" station -he has, has been a flop every step of the way ?

OR is Lindy soon to replace Honeykutt??? would seem to make sense if they are looking for someone with success at programming on a local AND national level -which the company is heading towards. Would make sense when you ask the question - Why would Lindy head to WUBL(stinker) and not US99 in Chicago(winner)?

Radio & Records is reporting that he will also be the operations mananger of the entire Atlanta cluster.

Maybe it's time for Bloomquist to clean out his desk! :D

Regarding Cadillac's strengths - I'm sorry I just don't hear it in the Kicks morning show. In all fairness, he's a good solid jock but he doesn't walk on water. In my opinion it's not the morning show thats keeping Kicks atop their perch but the fact that they've been so engrained in this market for so many years. They'd probably still win out over the Bull even if they had a monkey pushing buttons in the mornings.

You're right, it's not that he's unbeatable or invincible. Kicks is sitting fat n happy. But whoever goes against them better know what the strengths and weaknesses are over there. Cadillac will never "blow you away" with awesome bits, biting commentary or stunts. But there does exist the now always-ignored-in-hiring Q factor. That is, some guys just have the raw ability to make people like them. Cadillac has that, and it goes a loooong way.

the new pd at the Bull has his work cut out for them for sure. Mike Stiles would be good,Trip West might work. Persoanaly I want Rhubarb back.
