A New Identity for WISX

It looks like WISX (106.1) will be rebranding. Radioinsight reports that mix1061.com and kissphilly.com were registered by Clear Channel yesterday. Could something be happening over there?

lets hope christmas music launches this week on 106.1

they will have good ratings if they do that then launch into the new format in the new year

Yeah, sure worked out well for Now. :D

In Now's defense (not that they really need any), They went from Mainstream AC to Christmas to Mainstream AC to CHR-leaning Hot AC to 80's 90's Now Hot AC all within a year. You're not gonna get people to stick around with that much change.

IF WISX morphs to full-blown Hot AC.. I'd like it, but I don't think it'd work with Philly's history of stations morphing to Hot AC (Alice, The Point, Now, various forms of Mix 95.7). The only stations that launced AS Hot AC were Max/Mix. Max got pulled for Jammin Gold. Mix never found an identity.

They have already been re-branded as a Hot AC on Clear Channel's website. MY1061.com also uses the Top 10 for Hot AC on the music panel on the right side of the page. Just last week they were still the Top 10 Rhythmic AC songs.

And of course the change in music -- no doubt they are going into a full-fledged Hot AC.

They just added a new mixshow on Saturday nights, I wonder if that will stay. Also, I hope they keep the Remix Top 30.

Christmas then Hot AC? This isn't your grandmother's Hot AC anymore...

All Christmas music formats do not belong on Hot AC stations.

I think it's "logical" that a Hot AC would work in Philly.

But let's be honest. A Hot AC is not going to get higher ratings then any of the other incarnations of WISX or the old Now or Mix 95.7.

It's ashame they never gave the Rhythmic AC a proper try. They bastardized the format so much that it never caught on. I hope this doesn't keep anybody else from doing it. Still waiting for a KTU type station in Philly. Or, even a real Rhythmic AC without the sleepy soft rock thrown in (what WISX did for years).

So, the ratings will probably be the same. It will be the upper end of the Q102 demo that the old format was also targeting. Maybe they think the Hot AC will be an easier sell to advertisers?

Could be argured Max was more modern-leaning AC at launch than straight-up hot AC. And sure it got pulled for the fad of the week, but what does that say about how well it was doing overall? Had it been showing real signs of life, it probably wouldn't have been so abruptly dumped.

That site also has a new logo for 106.1fm that appeared today on that website, as "Mix 1061."

Very few R/AC's have stuck to what they originally started as.

Saw the logo, which would make you think that is definitely it. However sometimes they plant that stuff to throw people off. Considering how recently & how much a failure mix 95.7 was, I would think another station would hold off using that name for many years, so that could be the case. The whole kiss FM has been a successful brand for clearchannel, so I don't see why they would be hesitant to bring it here. Besides kiss100 was a success with women.

Anyway, there's a chance thats whats happening, but reality looks like 1061 will become mix 1061. Actually if they would drop the whole mentioning of "1" MIX106 or 106MIX rolls off the tongue really good. Too bad clear channel insists on using the entire frequency in station names now.

really then explain to me why mix 106.5 in clevlend ohio is doing x-mas music they are hot-ac

what if this mix name is just a smoke screen for the real thing

rush radio 106.1 fm talk is doing very well these days with the ppm

Something tells me they aren't going to be changing for at least a little while.

They have some new imaging, just added a new mixshow and the music still seems to be the middle of the evolution.

Stations have cast aside far more than some new imaging (e.g., expensive nearly brand-new morning shows) to make an adjustment. It's not necessarily an indication they couldn't make an adjustment.

So, nobody over there realized that "Mix" and "One Oh Six" rhyme? They're going to stick the "one" (or, worse "point one") at the end and ruin it?

Kiss 101.7
WJKS-FM 101.7 MHz
Canton, New Jersey

And?

And......A Kiss station moniker already exists in the greater Philadelphia extended terrestrial signal area.

And since 99% of the population has no idea, nor can hear it, it wouldn't be an issue to have it in Philly, and more than Y 100 suffered because there was a "Y" station that could be picked up in part of the area during its lifetime.
