A new name for the Heat Radio Network?

I'm currently listening to the Celtics-Heat playoff game on 790 WAXY via 104.3 WSFS-HD2, and to me... it sounds like they've just changed their radio network name for the Miami Heat from the standard "(team name) Radio Network" to... "The Miami Heat Audio Experience."

Is this brand new? I'm listening to Heat playoff basketball for the first time in a long time so I don't know when the change was made and also if this is permanent or not.

I'm guessing the name change came about because the team wants to include all available listening platforms and not have their play-by-play tied only to terrestrial radio. I couldn't tell you when the name was changed, though.

Yeah, I don't know when either but I was startled and confused for a bit as to why they were calling that. I'm used to hearing "The (team name) Radio Network" but "The Miami Heat Audio Experience" is something new to me.

It must be an Audacy thing. WEEI has removed “radio” from the “Shaws & Star Market WEEI Red Sox Network” name this year.
Joe Castiglione almost said the banned "R-word" this afternoon, caught himself just in time. The hesitation was noticeable. I wonder if announcers who slip up are reprimanded or fined, like WWE commentators who dare utter "wrestling."

I wonder about some of these tongue twisting names that use terms not normally used by listeners.

Why not call the audio service something simple like "The Heat Sound" or "The Hot Sound from The Heat" or something a bit more memorable than the overused and under-understood "Experience". It's too much like "The Ark Encounter" in Kentucky...

Your listening to The Hot Miami Heat Sound.

Because there's more to Audacy -- and specifically Audacy's Miami cluster -- than a basketball team.

Previous was posted in error -- I misunderstood the reference to "audio service." The names David mentioned would be perfectly fine to use in describing the Miami Heat's network.

Makes sense. If you're listening to the game on a web stream or *gasp* a radio, you don't really need to be told it's audio. I like it.
