(its not the best signal in the world but readable) i noticed it about 10pm fri night. and signal just disappeared at 9:30pm tonight.

That must have been Imus.

yea it went off about 9:30pm i 1st caught it fri about 9pm and it was there all day sat i beleve and most of sunday untill 9:30pm. not shure where your at. but the best signal was up here in the northside of anderson (around cross st. and broadway.) was able to hear it ok for about 10miles then the signal dropped off quick.

Sounds like a pirate someone in Indiana would do. They put no effort into actually making it something people might actually listen to, but instead they just clog up the airwaves with garbage. ???

Guess you don't think Hoosiers are so bright? Maybe someone from Martinsville moved to Anderson?
They will be arrested soon. New penalty. one year in prison and $100,000 fine.

The WGNR translator from Muncie has coverage in Anderson. So, is this really a pirate in Anderson
jamming 102.9? Or, is it someone from Muncie operating on 97.9 the input to the translator?
There is a known pirate operator in Muncie who targets Christian radio stations with jamming
and profanity. Hope the idiot gets the prison time he so deserves!

Do we need to fill up prisons with pirate radio station operators? Really. I think there are worse criminals out there. Nothing better than listening to some bad radio which isn't too difficult to find in Ind.

This brings back memories of Barry and Oliver next to Broad Ripple Park and in Ravenswood during the 70s. That was real pirate radio. They even got their music sponsored by the record store down the street that had a name appropriate for the time. AM and FM simulcast with 50 watts into 4 bays on FM and 50 watts into a vertical on 1170. I field strengthed them within a day of each of their moves. They were pretty sophisticated for the time. No match for a portable radio with an amplified meter hooked to the agc.

They were on clear frequencies at the time. I guess the FCC doesn't have much of a sense of humor these days.

I thought todays kids only care about Myspace, Facebook, Skype, blogs and video games .

...and I thought all the looney tune people in indiana were all the birchers and klansmen...oh and let us not forget those deadbeat bubbas who love to push your buttons on the request line who hang up as soon as you answer.

duh me!

You're right. The severity of the crime doesn't compare with what's going on in our society. So tell you what; Provide me with a 60,000 transmitter on a 750 ft. tower and I'll start broadcasting a Christian hot music format on 94.7 FM, or 96.3 FM, or 95.5 FM. It's not that big a deal, right?

well so far at 10pm today nothing.. could be a weekender.

i have hurd serveral pirates in my day. most of them actually dont do bad for a pirate, and they usually have some good talk ect. but there is the ones that. are just plain stupid. and should be locked in a mental hospital.

It reminds me of hackers and crackers. Hackers were the good guys ... they would break in to look around and do no harm. Occasionally they would leave a note about how to secure a system better but they were in it just to see what could be done. Crackers were the bad guys who sought to destroy. Unfortunately over time crackers did enough damage that hackers were given a bad name.

There are those who have fun figuring out how to set up a radio transmitter and get a signal out. Some of them do a good technical job of it and their work is comparable to a regular radio station - they just didn't bother to get the proper permissions first. Others seek only to destroy. The pirates reported on 102.9 FM do not sound like the "let's have fun without hurting anyone" type of folks. Just like crackers have pulled the 'hacker' label down into the gutter, these idiots are giving "legit pirates" a bad name.

This isn't unlicensed service to their community ... it's garbage.

well Im sure im in those 10 mile range since i live near Tenth and Scatterfield

Oh, Tony Fox, you're not fooling anyone.

OK. So, Anderson is within the coverage of the Muncie WGNR translator. HERE'S THE
BIG QUESTION. Does the signal strength go up in Anderson when the pirate is on? Or
is this someone in Muncie taking over the input of the Muncie translator? If the pirate
is in Muncie then he is really on 97.9 This guy could be operating out of a car. If we find
him, he simply drives away.

Well I sure hope this looney tune is caught pretty fast and arrested. He isnt running the station out of the goodness of his heart to serve his community, he wants to offend the Christian Listeners for his own sick thrill. If your gonna do a pirate, why not use a format that people might actually enjoy tuning into, and put it on a frequency no one else is using. Use common sense, run it profesionally, dont swear on the air, and respect your listeners, and dont use crappy man made transmitters with bad harmonics and over modulation, and dont use more than a few watts. A few watts engineered right, and high up enough will get you a respectable audience if you use a format that people may enjoy and not be offended by. Run it like a real station, dont make it sound like a bunch of crack heads hanging out in their moms basement.
