That would happen about the same time jazz would return to 106.7 and classical returns to 104.3 and country returns to New York.Raider57 said:This most likely will never happen, but it would be nice having G Rock on 94.7! ;D

As Johnny Mathis once said, "Until the 12th of never...and that's a long, long time." You've got a better chance of hearing news, talk and sports on FM in NY, than hearing jazz on 106.7, classical on 104.3 and G-Rock on 94.7!![]()

News on 97.1 in the 70's. Failed WFNY on 92.3 in '06. Football Giants on WCBS-FM, last year.
So, the non-music format will eventually take off and stay in New York.
And so will Camping...

The fact that they are willing to try non-music formats in M#1, tells me the water is spilling in.radioguy39nj said:News on 97.1 in the 70s was NBC's ill-fated News & Information Service. It failed in every market. WFNY was 92.3 FREE-FM, which failed in every market CBS tried it in. The Football Giants only landed on 101.1 FM when 880 was covering a Yankees game and 660 had the Mets. BTW, that was a pre-season game last summer.
These are different times. New York is the only market on the I-95 corridor that doesn't have a news, talk or sports station on FM.![]()

BTW, I call it the "Acela Corridor". I-95 continues south past the trouble makers.

Nathan Obral said:Actually, one market where NIS didn't fail in was Pittsburgh... their affiliate there, KQV/1410, went to local production after NBC shut down NIS... and it's been mostly all-news ever since.
KQV is not a ratings winner, but apparently still bills well.

Interesting! I wasn't aware of that! Is KQV still doing local? They do have big competition from 50 kW blaster KDKA and CC FM talker WPGB.![]()

Indeed, they still are all-local from 5am-7pm weekdays. Overnights are mostly piped in from WBBR/Bloomburg, and weekends have some brokered talk and infomercials - along with "When Radio Was" - woven into the mix.
