A new TV service provider: Sezmi

I was just doing some window shopping at a Best Buy the other day, and I came across a pamphlet for a programming service called "Sezmi". Programming is provided via high-speed internet connection, carries on-demand content (from studios such as Paramount, Warner Brothers, Universal, Fox, Sony-Columbia-Tri Star, and Lionsgate), web-exclusive content (YouTube, Crackle), and cable networks (TLC, VH1, Cartoon Network, CNBC, TBS, and SyFy just name a few). They also carry local stations (via an antenna connection). The locals, web content, and on-demand content are available for $4.99, and to add the cable channels, they're $15 more.

Full service (Sezmi Select Plus) is only available in the Los Angeles area, while the smaller package is only available in ten other markets: Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Miami, Orlando, Phoenix, Portland, San Francisco, and St. Louis.

Sounds interesting, but if they can add some sports networks and maybe a few general entertainment cable channels, I'm might be more incline to purchase this.

Their line-ups (these people are too lazy to type it out in an actual text file, so they just stick all the logos into a big JPEG file!) seem no different from what's available from Crapca$t here in southwest WA.

*yawn*

I guess this is a reminder of why I don't even use the local [co-ax] cable, let alone a cable system running over a wideband network server......

Says who? ;)

I was looking into this, but the downfall is you have to have OTA reception of digital signal even with the high speed connection right?

If so, then it's useless for some of us who live where there's no OTA reception (even though i'm in the Los Angeles area).

If I understood their service correctly Sezmi can receive both OTA (local channels) and via Internet (you must have broadband, min 1.5mb).

So with this "service," I can record my OTA channels and web offerings such as YouTube. And I would pay $300 plus $5 per month for what? I could do that on my PC for the cost of a USB tuner module - around $50-$80 depending on the brand and features.

The only thing Sezmi adds is video on demand but I agree with you....easier to set up a PC (in fact, that's what I have).
