A nice swim in The Lake

While driving home I put on 106.5 FM and somewhat to my surprise heard the full version of "Magic Carpet Ride" by Steppenwolf followed by "Magic Man" by Heart... Two super-hot songs that had me glued to WHLK for approximately 9 minutes. When WMJI plays "Magic Carpet Ride", it's always been the shortened single edit, and I am always annoyed by that. Assuming that the station actually is trying to "play anything" (within reason of course), I think the idea of cherry picking those older hot tunes that just alway please is a good idea. Songs by The Beatles would fit into that category as would "Suspicious Minds" by Elvis Presley, some Rolling Stones pieces, "You Really Got Me" by The Kinks and maybe even it's tounge-in-cheek remake "Destroyer" from the later 1970s, also "All The Day and All of The Night". How they are used is an important factor as well.

They've actually sounded really good during their A to Z Lake playlist thing, for some reason it seems like even better variety and I've heard songs that I can't remember hearing since they flipped to The Lake. I expected the A to Z playlist to be lame when they started running promos for it, but I've been pleasantly. Was good to hear Frida yesterday and had "Never" by Heart up on the speakers today....wow, should I turn my man card in now or later??
