A notable bit of Boston radio trivia

I just learned this evening --- much to my total surprise --- that Sherm Feller, the longtime Fenway announcer and DJ on WROL (as well as other places), wrote the lyrics to the Jamies' great 1958 hit "Summertime, Summertime." The song is practically immortal; I hear it every summer.

As my father used to say, "You learn somethin' every day." 8)

The Jamies were a quartet from Dorchester who were members of the same church choir. IIRC, they consisted of a brother and sister, and two friends, another male and female. Three of the four are still living. One lives in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, another in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, and still another in Idaho.

This bit of info has been around awhile but it's good to pass along. I would say WJIB might be the only station to play it, or maybe 50s on 5 if you have XM

Doug - by any chance were you at the happy hour trivia at Seasons in Portland? :) I wrote the questions for our Friday evening trivia thing with Summer as the theme and that was one of them.

I played it a couple of weeks ago on WMFO. It's a staple song when the weather starts getting warm near summer, or when it is the middle of winter and a nice summer song is needed. I've also heard it on Bill Kelly's Teenage Wasteland on WFMU. Sadly, with the exception of small stations or college stations, that allow community members, you probably won't hear it.

Is, and has been, and always will be, on high rotation on WJIB-740.
And YES, it (the true Stereo version) is also on regular rotation at non-commercial WXRB-FM (95.1, Dudley/Webster, MA)! :)

Actually, it's a song that you can get away with on just about any format in a one-shot kind of way.

BTW, what Boston TV personality was Mrs. Sherm?
