A Note From KGO GM Mickey Luckoff

Kudos to Mickey Luckoff for posting this on the KGO website, and for not
hiding behind some "we don't comment on personnel matters" excuse.

Everything I've read about Mickey states he's a fine and upstanding guy,
it's too bad he now has to work for Fagreed and his corporate minions.

Your too kind to the management at Citadel Broadcasting.

I didn't want to be--you should have seen what I originally wrote before
pausing a for minute to play editor before hitting "post."

While "Fagreed" is now probably the common industry nick for the guy
(thanks to Jerry D.), some of the other words I wanted to use...oh my.

And here's something to keep in your back pocket--if the day ever comes
when the Citadel board wakes up and sees the disaster they've wrought,
we can use this 1963 Lesley Gore hit, but with slightly altered lyrics:

And-now-it's Judy's turn to cry,
Judy's turn to cry,
Judy's turn to cryyy-i-i.
Cause she and Fagreed,
are history.

;)

Mickey handled this situation more than a man - he handled it like a statesman. I would have been honored to work with this gentleman and even let go by him.

Not only what Mr. Luckoff said, by taking his time to write this ... but to post it for all to see on his station's web site.

This is "Class" ... with a capital "C".

That's why there aren't many certified Hall of Farmers in this industry like him.

There is only one ... Mickey Luckoff.

This just goes to show that all the great things I have heard about him in the past are true. I didn't think I would ever see something like that posted publicly...or privately for that matter!

KGO is a pretty successful operation. Even with the downturn in the economy, did they really need to let go of 5 people?

How much $$$ is this actually saving them?

Would it really make that big a difference tot he company---because it sure as hell makes a BIG difference in the lives of those 5 people.

Easy, now...he didn't cure cancer or anything. He posted a classy letter...that's it. Still has his gig.

That said, you would never see that at Clear Channel....They wouldn't allow it. I'm sure the citadel suits didn't like it either. But, when you're Mickey Luckoff, you can do it your way. More power to him.
