Star 94 hired KCPR to pitch stories about the Morning Mess. Here's what I got this morning. What do you think? Would Ashton Kutcher bite?
I’m sending this to both of you because it’s such a crazy story, I’m hoping someone might be able to pick it up – possibly as a Peach Buzz item?
Yesterday afternoon, all three members of STAR 94’s The Morning Mess had their Myspace pages hacked—essentially resulting in a massive internet rumor that one of the hosts, Marco, had died. It began with an early afternoon Bulletin sent to all of SuperPhat Mikey’s Myspace friends entitled “RIP Marco” that alluded to Marco’s death. Next, the hacker posted comments on Marco’s page, seemingly from Shannon and SuperPhat Mikey, with notes that read: ‘We miss you already’ and ‘I can’t believe you’re gone’ (you can see some of these comments on Marco’s Myspace page here: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=40243597). Calls began pouring into both the STAR 94 Listeners and office lines – former listeners from Indianapolis (where “The Morning Mess” used to host their show on RadioNOW) even called in and spoke with Cindy & Ray on air yesterday trying to get the scoop on what happened to Marco.
Within an hour of finding out about the hacker, Marco received more than 10,000 views to his page along with a slew of comments, phone calls and text messages from concerned friends and listeners. Shannon and SuperPhat Mikey also spent the better part of the day trying to combat the rumor—however, they had to wait until today after working with Myspace to regain access to their pages. Each of the team members has posted blogs explaining that Marco was just hacked and is not dead.
Although he admits it was funny at first, Marco has now offered a $5000 reward to anyone who can help him find the identity of this hacker! Let me know if you’d like to speak to him – he can probably offer a bit of additional insight on how this whole situation affected him.
