A question about WEDR.

Hey Guys and Gals:

Does anybody know when WEDR went Progessive Rock (and how long the format was)from block programming? I saw somewhere on another site that WEDR was the first FM station in South Florida to Play Progressive Rock 24 hrs a day, Is that true??

Thanks again!!!!

T.J.

Again I'm guessing here but the Progressive Rock format would probably be around 1970 or 1971.

During the block programmed days WEDR had a really great oldies show at night called "The Wax Museum". Wow it was a real music history lesson to listen to that show! I also remember the guys on WEDR getting into the "Beatle Paul is Dead" rumor and talking about Roby Younge getting fired from WABC for bringing it up.

WEDR is the only FM station in South Florida that has kept the same call letters since the early 1960's. The station was owned by ED Rivers hence the WEDR calls. The station used to be located in a Church (later behind it) transmitter and studios. Maybe somebody here knows why? David E. might know something about that.

There was also a connection between WMIE-AM 1140 and WEDR (Ed Rivers might have owned both stations at one time) but that was before I came to Florida. David E. might have the answer.
