A question and comment about 94.9 the sound:)

I am from louisville and was in cincinnati today and was impressed with the sound yes they played some stuff i don't like but they played dashboard confessional hands down and a depeche mode song from 1997 that was a minor hit and island in the sun by weezer and also i heard kayes choice not an addict. I must say the way some alt stations sound today you guys and gals have a great station there.A really good mix on the sound and i also heard young folk.

The only station that will play that down here is the triple a one oh yes q102 also played that song. Now down here we this pathetic piece of trash wlrs that reports as alt but plays mostly music from 10 yearrs ago or so grundge and alot of active rock with a few alt songs thrown in.They refuse to play young folk. They are owned by radio one so i hope main line does something good with them after the sale

My question is alot of people i talk to here say alternative format makes no money and is hard to sell except n major markets?is that true?does the sound do well in billing?I would think with the right peeps selling you can make anything a success. The right sales person could sell polka music to a 20 year old!!!

Comments and on that note hotpatrick out

I totally agree...94.9 The Sound is a fantastic station. The only alt-rock station that I have fond memories of besides The Sound is 103.9 The Edge here in Dayton(When Jeff Stevens and Allen Rantz ran it). They sounded great back from their launch in August 1995(They were previously Country as 103.9 The River)up until Jeff left to go across the hall and program Mix 107.7...Allen still did a great job from 98 up until he left in 2001. Then, once Rantz left, 'XEG became a hybrid "Active/Alternative", under Steve Kramer, the PD, and Boomer, the MD. You shouldn't try to serve two masters(I'm not big on those Active Alt Hybrids). They do decent ratings still to this day. Not sure how they bill. I do know their two highest billers up there at CC/Dayton are 'MMX and 'TUE(No suprise there). The Sound is doing pretty decent ratings for a new station, so the sales will come with time. I am guessing here, but 105 LRS in Louisville is probably another one of those Active Alternative-type deals. The Sound is aimed at an older audience than 'XEG and 'LRS...The Sound tries to aim for an older audience than most alternative stations. That's why you'll hear more "Oh, wow!" type songs like Weezer's "Island in the Sun" and the like.
BTW, the staff is good over there, too...Clayton previously worked at WDKF/Channel 9-4-5, a CHR/Pop station, in Dayton, before signing on to do middays at The Sound. He does work for CC's monster CHR in Columbus, WNCI, parttime on the weekends. Tommy BoDean does afternoons 4-6 PM...He is also the PD there.

I have to agree. The Sound @ 94.9 is one of the best stations I have ever heard in my entire life. It has a great approach, its female friendly without ignoring the male population. Tommy is a great programming and Clayton sounds fantastic on the station. Bonneville has got a good thing going on here.
