As I am in Da Burg today, I either heard on local TV or read in the P-G that the Quinnman is calling for riots in the streets if the Obama health care reform bill passes. Maybe he didn't say it, but if he did, I wonder if he was a supporter of the student sit-ins in the Sixties that shut down universities or the inner city riots in Watts , Newark, Detroit, and Hough in Cleveland. He was on KQV in the Sixties, so he certainly could not give his political opinions under ABC rules. ABC fired Bob Dayton from WABC for expressing a political view, so I don't know what the Quinnster might have been thinking.

Why wouldn't you wait and check your facts before posting hearsay on here? You loathe anyone who is conservative, so why not poke at Quinn I guess is the only explanation I can come up with.
 
People who have known Jim Quinn over the years also know that he went from being very liberal to very conservative so the prospect of him having endorsed the Sixties sit-ins is quite possible.

Bob Dayton was fired from WABC for making a dumb and ill-conceived comment on the anniversary of the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima. That was not, to my mind, a political statement.

Probably right

You are correct, but at the time critics of tight formats made it political.

Quinn has said he used to be a liberal, but his outlook changed after Liz Randolph sued him for sexual harrassment and won. They worked together at B94 and Quinn and Banana Don Jefferson made a stupid joke on the air about her alleged proficiency in oral sex.

Maybe that's the case, or maybe he just borrowed part of the Limbaugh template to re-invent himself and extend his career. It's certainly been profitable for him.
 
He may want to update his affiliate page for the first time in a while too. Wikipedia says the show is now played on WPGB, WLXO Lexington KY, WRFB Cumberland MD, WYSL Rochester NY, WHLO Akron OH, WNCO Ashland OH, and WAEB Allentown PA. Their site still shows Protalk in Alabama. Protalk's owners shut the transmitters off 8 months ago.

I recently moved to Lancaster from Pittsburgh and I seemed to recall Q&R were also on a station in Reading, but may not have been a morning show. Anyone know if they are no longer in Reading? It seems like it was WEEU-AM or something like that. I have iheartradio on my Blackberry so can still listen to them anyway if I wanted to.

They're still on 790 AM in Allentown, which easily hits Reading. It's delayed into evenings.
 
I also have a "Quinn & Rose" question. Where is Rose?? It seems she just "pops" her head in for a few minutes here and there. Although it is difficult to get a word in when Mr. Quinn is ranting.

Rose pops her head in around an hour after the show starts. She's not there for the four straight hours. Probably only about 2 or 3 if that.

She also only goes to work about 2 or 3 days of the 5-day workweek. Nice gig.

Yes, those were the two catalysts. I was the Program Director of B-94 when the case came to trial (but not when the original comment was made). IMHO, Quinn was treated poorly by the media, especially television, and it did change his outlook, as did Limbaugh's ascendancy and his first book.

I also recall Quinn saying something to the effect that he needed to reinvent himself or else he'd be a 60-year-old, unemployed disc jockey. He's a very smart guy, and a survivor across many styles and eras of radio.

So, I'm still waiting for you to tell us if your original post was true or you starting crap......why is this research of yours taking so long?
 
It was on the morning edition of one of the local newscasts that my mother watches. It was the morning of the day I posted. If you read my origional post, I admitted I might be mistaken. If I heard right, I think he, Jim Quinn, has entered an area of gross irresponsibility. If he didn't say it, nevermind. Given Speaker Pelosi's call to turn down the rhetoric and Rep. Boehners response, the conservatives must think H.Rap Brown and Mario Savio were cool dudes.

Quinn did make a comment "inviting" people to "riot," but it's a comment easily misconstrued (especially if you're so inclined) and has to he heard in the context of preceding general observations about 60s-style radicalism. The whole discussion is too lengthy to post here. Essentially it was a nuanced statement, equal parts tongue-in-cheek and disparagement of violence on the left. You know: like the vandals that cut down towers at two radio stations recently, one of which, WAEB, is a Quinn affiliate.

Suffice it to say that Quinn's commentary bore no resemblance to what MsMusicRadio appears to be alleging.

If you "might have been mistaken," what was the point of your original post, other than to take a gratuitous swing at conservatives? Are you trying to "incite" trouble? Or is it just a slow day??
