A radio program you probably won't hear

TThere's a station that literally plays almost EVERYTHING requested...from Country, to Heavy Metal, Rap, 50's oldies, novelty songs etc. etc. They play the phone calls with dedications & the requests.

And why won't you hear it? Because it comes on most nights @ midnight and serves a very specific audience. Overnight workers @ Walmart! During the day they play background music and an occasional ad....but after midight the satellite feed goes to this crazy non-format. Occasionally they'll do interviews with personnel.

My "guess" is that this is all voice tracked sometime during the day and played back overnights. The reason I say this is that there is never any back and forth interaction between the jock and callers. I think the callers are taped the night before.

I meran where else would you hear Wiullie Nelson followed by AC/DC? Or how about the entire April Lavigne CD?

Really amusing stuff.

I am a very late night Wal*Mart shopper myself, and have heard this format/show on one or two occasions. It certainly is unique!

I heard the announcer on Wal-Mart radio suggest that Wal-Mart radio could be heard online. That was probably spring 07. Can't find any reference to it now.

Great...EXACTLY what we need - Wal-Mart getting into radio...

Call letters....WLMT (even if they're not available, Wal-Mart can sure as hell buy them off anybody)....Logo...big yellow smiley face....frequency...anywhere in the COMMERCIAL portion of the FM band of course. Next, hire underpaid, unionless employee DJs, give them the food stamp application upon hiring and make'em all wear blue vests with colorful name tags and have them say nice pleasant customer service-like things as liners like "May I help you?" and "I ring that right up for you sir/m'am". And always have the greeter of the month give the top of the hour ID....

Hmmmm....and with this format musically....it just might even WORK.....

And lets not forget..the jocks will NOT say "Merry Christmas",even though we will be more than happy enough to take the ad $$$ for the holiday ::)

The sad thing is I've heard more interesting jocks, more diverse music and better delivery from the Wal-Mart late nite radio than from my local radio stations!

It makes shopping there at 3am. . . Eeeeeever so slightly less painful. :p

I strrongly doubt you would EVER hear Wal-Mart Radio on the internet. It is really targetted at employees. One of the biggest features is mentioning employees job anniversaries. (i.e. Congratulations to Susie Smith celebrating her 20th anniversary working for Walmart at store 7284 in Rawbewnd, Indiana) Don't know how interesting this would be to the average person. They also have interviews with executives to discuss new policies or initiatives.

Having worked at Wal-Mart in the past, I can truly say I've found Wal-Mart Radio more interesting than a lot of local stations... at times. Most of the time, since it's all-request radio night after night, you hear the same songs over and over and over again, but every once in a while, there'll be a night when all kinds of underplayed tracks are brought out and played. Those nights really stand out, and they can be fantastic.
