A Rain Delay Edition of Sox Talk

The Red and White Soxes attempted to play a game today but it ultimately got washed away. After a 48 min. delay after the top of the first, they managed to make it to the third inning when the skies opened up again (4:07 pm) and so
there was a rain delay that lasted until...7:50 pm or so, which is when the game
was called!

As usual Red Sox radio network went to a "rain delay edition of Sox Talk" (I
think they were even doing a Spanish version of this on WROL). But after a couple minutes, WBOQ bailed out on it and went back to music. I'm guessing Sox network
affiliates can choose whether or not to go to Sox Talk or back to their
regular programming.

by the way, speaking of the rain: I left Osterville at 3:50 pm and didn't get back to Beverly till
7:40 pm or so due to heavy traffic/rain. 85 miles the way I went (after the Mystic River bridge and Rt 1, I went to Rt 60 to 107 into Lynn, Salem, etc.)...but it took me as long to drive those 85 miles as it would to drive _220 miles_ from
Beverly to Burlington, VT! Rain and just plain heavy traffic.

Also: I think Joe and Jerry had to vamp for awhile till Dickerson (IIRC)
and Adams came in to do Sox Talk...
______________

I was at the game this afternoon with my brother...great box seats right behind the Red Sox on-deck circle (3rd row but what used to be 1st row until they added a couple of rows of seats a couple years ago).

Got drenched with the first rain delay while we and several thousand of our nearest and dearest friends tried to all get under the concourse at the same time.

Then, later, got even more drenched (if thats possible) with the 2nd rainstorm.

We finally left about 5:55pm when they announced that they probably would not restart on time (which was planned for 610pm) because more rain was headed that way. About 3 minutes after we got onto the Mass Pike, we ran into a brutal rain/thunder/lightning storm.

Game was called about an hour after we got home.

I guess they made every effort to play it, since I think this was White Sox'
last trip into town this year (barring... playoffs :) ), but they can still
try to shoehorn a make-up game in somehow.

It was said at one point that they tentatively were going to start again at 7pm;
at 7 pm I was on I-93 north heading into the big dig Tunnel with ominous clouds
and heavy rain/vivid lightning...

No Sox talk on WPRO/630. The station which will not be carrying the games in '06 is continuing it's no WEEI ID policy with no rain-delay talk (with Craig Mustard) this afternoon. They went to syn.programing at the first delay.

There were several storms that hit Fenway today, alot of Mass didnt seem to get it so bad. The storms that rolled right over me and onto Fenway, were BRUTAL. Downpours to the point that I could barely drive, there was hail, and tons of lightning. There was no way that game could have been played.

Supposedly Fenway has a better drainage system now and maybe they thought there was a chance; however after those storms started they should have said "well,
the rain's heavier than we thought and it's supposed to keep going till
10 pm or so, so let's call it". Before a game starts, the decision on whether or not to play due to weather rests with the home team. After that, it's the
umpires' call.
______________

All I know is the boardop at my sister station was EFFING PISSED about having to stick around all that time.

I was cruising through Arlington as the first burst of storms hit, it was a monsoon that left a few streets flooded in at least 6" of water. Joe and Jerry were able fill plenty of time in the first rain delay by naming every single pitcher the Yankees have used this year.
