A Rant in E-Minor

There exist two Christian radio stations.

These stations exist in a large market well known for it's support of CCM for over the last 30 years.

One of these stations is award winning and well known in the Christian music industry.

The other has been on the air for only around a year.

Both are commercial.

One is owned locally.

One is owned corporately.

Bot have decent ratings, considering the size of the market and the share of listeners available for Christian music.

They both have believers on staff. They both do a good job of radio, overall.

Both have some strong air talents.

Both have a some who aren't so strong.

Both promote concerts. Both reach out to listeners.

So why are they fighting with each other?

Why do both sides behave like children at times?

Why are nasty e-mails sent from one station to the other?

Why do both stations bad mouth each other?

Sure, each station was started with the professed purpose of providing a safe place to dock for Christians and families.

Sure, each station started with the noble purpose of reaching a city with something better; something pure.

But what is each station now focussed on? Each is simply focussed on beating the other. Is that why we started? Is that why we were called?

Sure, we do great radio. Sure, we try to reach as many as possible. Sure, we strive for excellence.

But what do we do when our actions begin to clearly prove that we are playing directly in the hands of a divider?

What do we do when our days begin to be spent playing games with each other and not playing to our listeners?

We are sheep. Led by one master, but easily scattered and distracted. Are we really so easily fooled into believing that winning over our brother is the key to recieving a 'well done' from our shepherd?

Fools, we are. A fragile and easily toppled army. And I am ashamed at my own past behavior and the behavior of my bretheren.

This word and encouragement: "Return to your first love and turn your weapons against your actual enemy. Turn them away from your brothers. Your passion, time, and resources spent railing against your fellow Christian broadcasters are serving only to help your enemy."

Stop it!!!!! Remember WHY you began and return to that purpose. Somewhere along the way you stopped doing damage to the gates of hell and began doing damage to your own city!!!!

STOP IT. REMEMBER AND RETURN. Quit wasting your time or everything you have been entrusted with will be taken away from you and given to those who will prove themselves faithful.

I don't CARE what the other station did to you. I DON'T CARE how you have been wronged by your competition. God has called YOU to be accountable for YOUR actions. So stop the focus on the OTHER station. And begin to pray, research, and meditate on what God would have you do with what he has entrusted to you.

This is soooooo tempting. You know, 'cause there's one line in there that makes it obvious who the post is about.

So far, I've resisted for over 24 hours.....

But I will say this -- the person who this is about is in trouble because of his passion and his first love. He needs to realize that his passion and his first love really has little to nothing to do with radio, and, if that's what his passion and first love really is, he should go off and do it OR learn some radio and start doing some things right while there's still time to save the station (the competition's been generous in letting him live, the way I see it; they could have come right for the heart of the market rather than flanking the upper end he left so vulnerable). Otherwise, his arrogance, anger, and embarassing immaturity are going to leave him with nothing but an easy view of the market that's no longer listening to him.

Oh.....I guess I couldn't resist. Sorry. I really am. But it's all for what's best.

Mmm...

Two stations... both Christian AC.

Take a look at the market.

Two other Mainstream AC stations (KBEZ / KRAV).

What about the two Mainstream CHR stations (KTBT / KHTT)?

Tulsa needs a Christian CHR station targeting 18-34! ;)

Any takers?

I know of a brand ready to air! ;D

I just want to jump in on the comment about not thinking about the other station.

That is not going to work in broadcasting.

Stations simply must consider their competion....

Especially if they are the same format.

Ok hear id=s the truth... whether you like it or not. All Chrstian Stations whether they say it or not are businesses. They have employees and bills to be paid. Most of them would like to tell you that they have a mission, yes they are serving God and yes they are reaching out to people. They do some much, to help people see the LOve that comes from our Lord and Savior. But you have to realize these are still businesses that have responsibilites to continue to pay their employees and their bills. It would be nice to beleive that all Christian Stations should get along (especially when most of them have some sort of diffrent demographics) but they do not. The reality is that Pledge Drive income is down through out the US. It is getting harder for stations to get money from their listeners. It is not saying that they have any less listeners it is saying that money is tight with listeners especially with the 25 to 50 years olds(and I am not saying that every demographic does not have maony problems). I am in that demographic and I find it hard to give to everyone I would like too. I have kids, I have a mortgage and I have car payments along with what I give to my church each week. Then yoiu have major pledge drive machines like EMF come into the market and start cutting away at the pledge money in an area. Christian stations then begin to compete for the pledge dollar in a certain area. So you have to understand it becomes competitive situation just the the commercial radio world fighting over the advertising dollar. Some Christian stations now find themselves having to give the listener something in return for pledges. I heard anything from CDs., books to concert tickets or more. Conditional Giving comes into play. I have to give ou something to get you to give to my cause, it happens in the non-profit chariety world all the time whether it is Christian or not. It just a shame that it has had to happen to the Christian Radio world. I know of stations that spend a ton of time in coming up with with pledge drive prizes. And i have seen the result, it is unfortunate that in today's society that we ahve to give something to get something. So sympathize with the post at the beginning of this thread, but Christian Stations are going to compete against each other, I have been there, worked there and lived it. I know of one station who was picked to help with a Christian Concert and then competion could not handle that they were not picked that they tried to stiop businesses in becomeing sponsors for it. I know it is hard to accept but just remember when it comes down to it, even though you would think it would be diffrent the the commercial world it is not. Remember that yes it is God's station and yeas it is suppose to be a ministry... humans still run the operation and well we are all human and make wqrldly mistake....just me little rant

This market already has a CHR, Air 1. Plus, KCXR is (was) rock & it's slanting a little more to the CHR side. Just toss in another Christian signal in the market & see what happens...I'm sure you'd make a lot of people happy. ;D

The original post says... "Sure, each station was started with the professed purpose of providing a safe place to dock for Christians and families.

Well we know that is not true. We know that at least the corporately owned station is there to make $$$. The privately owned station KXOJ is the to make money as well...but maybe has a more noble priority of spreading the Gospel.

In the end it is all abt. Money!!!!!!!! Money, Money, Money!!!
