A Real OMG Moment

I've seen many operations like this even in somewhat large markets. I remember an FM in Tulsa that was housed in two single wide mobile homes with a walk way between them. After a week of tracing through the rats nest of wiring and hauling away a couple of dumpster loads of paper and junk it turn into a pretty nice station..

Was that KKUL "Kay-Cool" 103.3 (later KTFX and now KJSR "Star 103")? I heard that place was a mess in the mid 70's.

Yup, that's the one. In the end it turned out OK. I was the first on the air the night we switched from R&B to Top-40.
An interesting night to say the least between the bomb threats LOL..

Good chance I heard you that night in Bartlesville! ;D What were they running then?

I remember visiting the new studios in '79 a few weeks before they flipped to country and they had one of those big RCA Boards, 3-Deck cart player and Technics SL turntables.

Same stuff it sounds like... The only changes were the turntables, I believe we had Russco back then.
I spent a lot of time over the years in front of RCA consoles in small and medium markets. Worked my first slide pot console at Kansas City's KBEQ (The Super Q) in 1974.

Years ago I was traveling through a small town and decided to see a friend who owned an AM station there. When I called him, he asked me to fill in on the board until he got there. What a dump!

I couldn't operate in such mess, so I did a quick cleaning up the place during my (his) shift. He came in eating a banana, thanked me for the clean up, sat down, and we caught up on old times between records (45's).

He finished the banana and threw it over his shoulder. The next week on my return trip, I visited his station again; it was just like the time before - I sure he felt right at home. :D
