So The Beat isn't a true Hip Hop station because they don't focus more on our 7% black population.....yeah. You have to realize that there's only so much a station can do. One thing that should be pointed out is that The Beat is always on the streets. There no other radio station in town that's more involved with the community. And yes, The Beat does focus on the Hispanic community but for obvious reasons.

There is way too much hypocrisy in this thread.
If Hip Hop is a culture as its been stated many times in this thread, why does the Beat and even Power refer to San Antonio as San Anto. A largely and actually only Hispanic used term. If hip hop, music in general, is a culture that isn’t bond by color or race why are the stations?
I agree, if it shame that every on air employee sans one is Hispanic. And don’t give me the 55% to 8% nonsense. It’s not about the audience; it’s about the fact that a corporate radio station seems to not want to diversify their radio staff. It’s really provincial and just so small minded.
Want to know something else; a station can only become better if their talent is enamored with the music they’re supposed to be playing. Not because it’s their job and they can switch it on and off with any genre, but because they have a deep rooted passion for said genre. Someone who was rotating dance music who applies and gets a job at a hip hop station because they have a good voice or great personality isn’t going to cut it. It’s going to bring down the quality. Someone who lives the life, lives the music, loves the music, that’s who should be working there and it doesn’t matter their skin color, white, black, brown or race Asian, middle eastern. It doesn’t matter.

funny i watch these posts and enjoy the haters who post crap about people. Most hide behind screen names and I give props to those who are brave enough to use their real names. Most of these haters are the people that are fired, out of work or just damn jealous. So yes hate me for "trying" to be hip hop. I agree with dtwnboi but as saradio said this is a hispanic dominated market though I will say you still need black jocks on the air,not all hispanics who front as to them knowing about the culture and lifestyle because in reality saradio MOST DONT! ;D

I think you are all stupid. Does me being a black woman or a mexican woman have anything to do with how much I like hip hop? Who cares? This is 2006. I dont know if you people have been living under a rock but hip hop isnt one color. Go to the burbs where you see the whiteboys bumping 2pac or whatever. Go to the westside where you see the mexicans bumping the same thing. Eastside, southside.. whatever! Plus, if you look at the Billboard Top 40 you see mostly hip hop. Why? Because since the commercialization of hip hop you can no longer pin point it to only one race. Doing so would be ignorant. Yes we have all established that San Antonio is mostly hispanic. And? I think 98.5 taylors too much to the hispanic croud and not the hip hop fan in general reguardless of color. Pocos Pero Locos is HORRIBLE! But you know what? The hispanic lean is working for them. I think if 98.5 changes that they are commiting sucide. I hope 106.7 tayors to the hip hop fan as a whole. Unfortunatly I dont think it will survive. DB does not know how to program a true urban station. And the rumors say that he kept Adam on the team. If either one of those two are on the air at 106.7, the beat should have nothing to worry about. No disrespect to Adam... but he is no Urban jock let alone a CHR jock. He should stick to the top 40.
Your right stealingyourAL....i agree now that the BEAT shouldnt change...they need to keep doing there thing. but if 106 intends to stay competitive with them they have get rid of anyone whose is from the previous days of Z they need to bring in some outside folks who have a different style then the BEAT. leave the BEAT to doing what they are doing. POWER bring in somthing new you know i wont hurt to bring in another race besides hispanic to run the AIR. you might be surprised that your station survives if you do this because your being different and establishing your own identity. just put it this way. if POWER has hispanic jocks that try to emulate the BEAT they wont survive. the beat will take them to the ground because not only will they be the same the loyal listeners will stick to the beat. SO PLEASE MAKE SOMETHING DIFFERENT HAPPEN POWER.....MAYBE IF YOU HAVE SOME BLACK FOLKS OR ASIAN FOLKS OR ITALIANS OR WHITE folks beside hispanic your station might survive because its not the same as the BEAT. okey so the BEAT stays number 1 whoopey atleast youll be different and youll have a competing radio station that doesnt have the same hispanic sound the beat does.......ill i am asking is do something different for SA.
