A Relevant Radio Show

An interview yesterday with presidential candidate Joe Biden on the Breakfast Club became an important part of the day’s news. Linked is a newspaper article discussing the influence of this morning show, broadcast out of WWPR 105.1 and syndicated on many other stations, on its relatively young audience.
This may be an example of how broadcast radio can remain relevant and engaging, despite the plethora of alternatives. It may also be an argument in favor of syndicating talented personalities, as opposed to providing less noteworthy local content.
Please let's not bring politics into this.

I agree. I've been thinking the same thing all day. This is the kind of space that Imus used to excel in at one time. Yes this is how radio can stay relevant: By doing a great interview and then promoting the heck out of it in social media, watching it go viral, and then get picked up by TV. This is something that could never have happened 30 or 40 years ago. This is how Howard Stern became King Of All Media. And it doesn't hurt that Charlamagne is a great interviewer, and knows what he's doing. To all the iHeart haters, this is one of their shows. They are building a stable of solid shows with great talent in all formats. Nobody comes close. Local doesn't matter if you have great content and know what to do with it.

The show has a huge social media presence, namely on YouTube. They have ~4.4 million subscribers, which is really good for any channel, let alone a radio morning show.
