I finally got into a position to digitize a number of miscellaneous reel-to-reel tapes my father's been wanting me to transfer to CD. Most of them are dubs of miscellaneous records (primordial mix tapes, if you think about it.)
One of them stood out: it's an audio aircheck of the WCBS-TV broadcast of Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic's Young People's Concert, and from the announcer's note in the middle stating that the next day's Ed Sullivan Show would feature Cyril Ritchard, Jo Stafford and Carol Heiss (which TV.com suggests is the March 9, 1958 broadcast of that show) it apparently dates from the previous day, March 8, 1958.
And so, if anyone can corroborate this in listings and pass along the actual airtime, I'd be thrilled, and if you want to make it a "NYC week-of" post, I certainly wouldn't stand in your way.
Now if only the dog hadn't started barking during the station break, while my father was taping this thing microphone-to-speaker style...the whole show's now available on DVD, but I suspect the station break isn't part of that.
