A Retrospective of 2005

Gabe Dalmath saw the end and said goodbye to Channel 10. After three decades of reading the news, now Dalmath is raising money for a baby elephant scheduled to arrive in 2006 at the Seneca Park Zoo.

Brian Martin thought he would be Dalmath’s replacement and felt up to the quest, only to end up out the door and landing a job out west.

Fearing they might end up in the rating’s ditch, the management of Channel 10 went down the hall to the sports department and got a new anchor by the name of Rich.

Another anchor left at the gate was a gal named Melissa who worked at Channel 8. Not wishing to become another has-been, Melissa said so-LONG to Rochester and went to CNN.

At 13 Alhart remains supreme, knowing he will be employed until he retires and heads the Rotary.

On the radio side we were introduced to some new names. Good ole Jack and Fickle boring us to death with repetitious tunes as part of the ratings game.

Christmas music came early in 2005. But somehow it isn’t cool playing Santa tunes so close to the 4th of July.

Morning radio is still the same with Chet and Beth, Tony and Dee, and the lady who fights with her husband on national TV.

We still heard the opinions from Rush and Diane, Bob and Bob and the countless others who make a living from radio’s verbal diarrhea-land.

Down in Avon there is a Savage man building a 20kw transmitter hoping to take a bite out of the big WHAM.

In Brighton there is a fellow named Scott who thinks the newspaper’s coverage of the electronic media is pure rot.

I see that you have plenty of time to post during the workday, being a government employee and all, but you seem to have plenty of free time to post on the radio AND the television boards??? Is this good use of my tax dollars??? I find it interesting how you aren't even a broadcaster, yet you think you have the authority to slam those who WERE able to maintain their broadcast careers. Perhaps you should focus more on your glorified secretarial job and less on some staples in the Rochester market that have a lot more talent than ego...something that I wish could be said for you.

My my my, some people just don't have a sense of humor and I guess you fall into that category. For your information I've received e-mail from some of the people mentioned in my parody and they thought it was quite amusing.

As for your snide and obvious jealous remarks about my new career and posting on here, let me enlighten you to some facts.

Fact# 1:

Had you bothered to look you would have noticed that I posted this parody which you are having a hissy-fit over, on December 24th, which is a SATURDAY. So it wasn’t posted on government time but my own time.

Fact# 2:

After a 30 year career in broadcasting, having been a reporter, news anchor, talk show host and news director, I've forgot more about the business than you will ever learn.
In March of 2004, when I left radio, I said goodbye to everyone on this board only to have a large number of people encourage me to continue offering my comments, even though I was no longer in the business.

Fact# 3:

If you ever bothered to look really hard, you might notice that there are a number of posters on this board who have either left the business or never worked in broadcasting, yet they still offer their comments and opinions. I plan to do the same.

Now that I've wasted my time responding to your rant, I suggest you go back to your board shift, and be happy that you got a raise this year since the minimum wage went up to $6.75 an hour.

Finally stop being so jealous of people who had the courage to move on and improve their professional careers.

Please...lighten up. I enjoy reading Mark's posts.

Save the vitriol for the Syracuse radio board.

Re: In Response To MG:

Sadly, mistaken as you usually are, my broadcasting career not only surpasses your years in the business but I can assure you my expertise does as well, and I am still working in it. As for your hilarious sense of humor, you are again mistaken suggesting that your own rants are all in fun. Not everyone mentioned in your sad commentary saw the humor. Perhaps you can limit these tasteless comments to those you can really include in your personal circle. I can only hope they are of higher character than yourself.

Speaking in my capacity as one of the above-referenced Bobs, ROFL.

And pass the Pepto-Bismol. ;-)
