I was driving in the car a little after 8PM, came across Hot, and definitely had some comic relief.
It's great Clear Channel did this A Safer Syracuse Summit. However, actually airing it was not a great idea.
What a pile of crap of audio that one hour special was, on WWHT, WPHR and WSYR. I didn't get a chance to see if it sounded that bad on TV. But the audio was TERRIBLE! So distorted, so hard to listen to.
If the audio source material wasn't bad enough:
Listeners on WWHT got the distinct treat of hearing the entire show on the right channel only. Apparently not only did we have morons AT the event doing the sound, but we had morons at the studio as well running the board...
Listeners on WPHR got the pleasure of hearing audio on both the Left and the Right channels... However, if you didn't think the audio source material sucked enough, the on-channel booster fighting with the main signal made an added the additional treat of CRAP on top of CRAP. Try understanding what they were saying while driving on 690!
While it sounded bad on WSYR, it was far more intelligible than the source on the FM's. Glad we used the fidelity to our advantage.
In all fairness, I only listened from 8PM-8:15PM. I'm not sure if they fixed it after that time.
As if stopping down your music formats for an hour on two stations wasn't bad enough to scare away your audience... Airing a show with audio that SUCKED is a sure fire way to get them to listen to something else… And I heard just that… The store I was going to always has on WWHT… and… <gasp> another radio station was on instead, go figure!
I know the whole idea of the summit was to reduce violence in Syracuse, but whoever did the audio for the event should be taken to the South Side, thrown in Onondaga Creek, and be shot several times.
Clear Channel... Serving the community... Well, if you could hear it.
