A Savage mistake?

A big election year should lead to increased interest in talk radio over the short term. Arguably the most liberal President in the nation's history running for re-election. This equals cannon-fodder for radio talk shows. Do you think it was a bad choice for Michael Savage to take himself out of the mix right now? Could he have not waited until a week or so after the election?

Savage told the San Francisco Chronicle he will be back on the radio in two weeks with a lot to say about the election. He would not say what 3 syndicators he is negotiating with.

That is an interesting declaration. It caused me to begin a search of the Internet tonight on the topic. Who else has been a Liberal president? Does Liberal mean the same thing today it meant 50 or 100 or 150 or 200 years ago?

For the possibility of turning today's citizens into intelligent citizens, why does today's Talk Radio not discuss (with objectivity) what is Liberal and what is Conservative. (When I did Talk Radio some years back, we had conversations like that. When I had a candidate as an in-studio guest, and they used political buzz-words... I insisted that they define some of the words and educate us all.

I think a lot of people would argue with you with a claim the Teddy Roosevelt would win the Most-Liberal-President sweepstakes. Others would say, no George Washington set the pace and others would champion Thomas Jefferson.

Here is the question I would like to see Talk Radio discuss.... with or without Savage on the stage... If you are going to have a Liberal President, is it best to have the least Liberal president or the most Liberal president.

Here is another question I would like to see Talk Radio discuss... with or without Savage on the stage... If you are going to have a Conservative President, is it best to have the least Conservative president or the Most Conservative president?

Now the BIG QUESTION that really belongs in this thread. Should Talk Radio only employ the very most Conservative and very most Liberal talk-hosts, or is the best interest of our country over the long haul better served by moderately Conservative hosts and moderately Liberal hosts?

the election timing was a little off, but not the end of the world

I wonder if Savage will get back on a Bay Area station? I wonder if he can get advertisers?

I'm really wondering how Savage thinks this is going to work out for him. Does he really expect one of the other major syndicators to give him that much more freedom?

I thoroughly enjoy Savage when he's not talking politics. He's very well versed, very intelligent, and greatly entertaining. When he starts talking politics, however, I feel like it's time to break out the tin foil hats.

We can probably say that about some other Talk folks as well.

"No Holds Barred" political talk is still new enough that the talkers don't know how to gracefully handle and produce the product, and the listening public does not know how to gracefully consume and share the product.

If he lands in a comfortable, productive place, maybe Savage can teach us all how to handle the product. It's like working with radio active materials. You don't put political talk on the same shelf in the pantry with less volatile ingredients.

Listeners to Sports Talk understand the word "trash-talk". They get bent-out-of-shape and red-in-the-face for a few minutes, and then they go to bed, roll over, and go to sleep. The consumers of Political Talk may not have a grasp of the term "trash-talk".

Probably a bad move for him, but he's not a significant enough voice to have any real impact to the medium.

If he couldn't even survive on a sports station in SF, he's better off taking his talents to the Internet.

Yes, it was a mistake. A lot of these commentators make money on the side writing books and doing personal appearances. Being off the air hurts.

I have a feeling Savage is difficult to deal with.
