A Shovel Worthy Format.

I apologize, but I think this new Hot AC sound on KEXX is pretty shovel worthy. In other words,
I'm diggin' it.

Not sure if it will stop me from visiting KPKX, but it will surely steal a lot of my attention from KMXP. Something about the KEXX playlist musical arrangement slightly rubs me the wrong way, but other than that I'm diggin' the Adult hits format sound and I'm sure over time the playlist will be polished up a bit. Just add in some Coldplay "paradise" and I'll be content. You also cannot have a Hot AC without Nickelback, Gavin DeGraw, The Fray, etc. Or maybe they're already playing some of those and I'm just not noticing.

You'll need a lot of shovels for all the stations you'll be digging. I'll stick with KWSS-LP and KJZZ, thanks. :)

This whole thing is somewhat like the LA market; A bunch of rhythmic chr's all over the place, then WHAM! There's KBIG on top of all that! Not only that, but LA also has a bunch of CHR's from the rhythmic and top 40 categories seeping in from nearby cities. Then, go to Boston and see how many adult top 40 / hot ac formats they have. I don't think Phoenix is too bad when it comes to top 40 or Hot AC in comparison to those places.

Mix/PHX and My-FM L.A. are totally different sounding stations, but both uniquely programmed for their market and doing very well.

I was actually talking about KEXX amongst a bunch of chr's here in Phoenix and KBIG amongst a bunch of chr's in LA, but KEXX and KBIG are also totally different from each other as well. I guess we're lucky to get a format sound in between KMXP and KBIG. If you like any type of CHR or CHR-like sound (from hip hop rhythmic to mainstream pop to pop rock adult), then you have it made in Phoenix and could use a lot of shovels.

LA has only two peripheral signals that get any kind of ratings in LA, KGGI from the IE market and KCAQ from the Ventura market. Together, they don't, as you can see from the pre-limitation Arbitron numbers, get above about half a share point combined...

While KCAQ does have a usable signal in the western part of the San Fernando Valley in LA County, KGGI has no usable signal anywhere in the LA or Orange county areas save a few acres in the Cleveland National Forest. Very successful KQIE in the IE does not even have a protected contour in the LA market, let a lone a usable signal.

But you still have an assortment of CHR variants in LA, including KIIS, KAMP, KPWR, KXOS, KSSE and KXOL. And you have some rhythmic adult stations like KHHT and KBIG, too.
