...a softer side of WMMR?

In the course of 2 weeks, I've heard Counting Crows's "Mr. Jones" twice and Gin Blossoms's "Hey Jealousy" once. Maybe I'm making something out of nothing or maybe some of y'all have noticed these slighty-softer-than-usual songs creeping in. Is this indicative of a larger trend in MMR's programming? Should I expect Deep Blue Something, Dishwalla, and The Rembrandts to be considered MMR Rock sometime soon?

*shrugs* I dunno. Early-to-mid-90's soft-ish mainstream alternative stuff doesn't strike me as typical MMR tunes. Maybe I'm making something out of nothing...

Softer? These songs are fairly guitar oriented with an edge. I guess WMMR is playing that loud metal stuff. Such a shame if it's true. And no Dishwalla please! Talk about one of the worst songs ever made! "Tell Me All Your Thoughts On God" No!!!!

Probably just a good set of ears you have. No...they're probably just expanding the demo-lures...playing a few "reach" tunes that extend out somewhat from the core library of tunes. Plus, with the demise of Y102...maybe pick up a few stray, homeless listeners from there. Just speculation.

Most stations have a few of those type tunes stashed waaaay back in the Selector that get tested, played, added, subtracted or teased over the day's/week's programming.

Now, if they add a sh*tload of those tunes...that's a different story.

Uh... there has been no demise of Y102. It's still there loud and clear:

Man, I'm a sucker for that Dishwalla tune. :) That's all I wanted to say.

They're hot AC songs. I think that was the point. BTW you're the first person I've ever heard refer to a counting crows song as having edge.

It seems like MMR has taken a few "safe" Y-100 songs and added them to their daily rotation, trying to play that fine line of attracting Y's former listeners while not totaly alienating their own core listeners. I hope they don't think that Counting Crows, however "edgy" they may or may not be, will win over the entire former Y-100 audience!
