So....it's a song, an album track, last song on the album. I thought it's title had within it something like "song for Billy".
It's a song about war and it sung in the first person by a guy who has been wounded, lying in a ditch, wounded, thinking he's going to die and from his perspective, is reflecting about war, his family. It's a gut wrenching song, very emotional. Definitly a rock band. I had the album years ago but it was pilfered from my collection at some point. Probably a seventies band and quite possible a southern rock band.
Some lyrics that I remember....
I didn't want your goddamn war.
What about the people who love me, who won't see me anymore.
I think the song ended with a repeat of ..... "Were it not for Jesus, nobody would see me die"
Any help is certainly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
