Not bad---all the voids are filled. But, as much as I like it, this would never happen in a million, billion, years.

In reality I don't think you would see two "Hot" stations in one market (93.1 & 97.1).

I'm kind of curious about a few things...
Why flip 93.1 from Spanish to Rythmic CHR, and then flip 93.9 to Spanish? Couldn't 93.1 just stay Spanish? Why not just keep the Ryhtmic CHR on 103.5 where it is now?

Why keep 94.7 WFME?

Why keep Mix 102.7 over the higher-rated KTU? (regardless of which station actually sounds better to our own personal tastes)

Why put country back on 103.5 when it failed there the first time around. Badly.

Where is 105.9?

Why not move "New York's Talk" to one of the many AM stations clogging up the dial with brokered programming? Why must hot talk be on FM when it is a perfectly good AM format?

Completely agree. I wish this were the case...but so unlikely...

> No Spanish AC. No Urban AC.

Why do Spanish people need more than one station? It's all the same language anyway.

(Just ruffling your feathers, David... I'm well aware of your arguments re: all the different Spanish-language formats.)

KTU change- bronx cheer

KTU going Country? NEVER! NEVER! NEVER! I'd love to be in the room where a consultant proposes that one. He'd be laughed out of the business.

I really don't know much about Spanish Radio, but that is like saying "English people only need one station". Think about it.

Just so the bystanders don't go, "hey, yeah" on this on, remember that Spanish is not a format, it is a language.

He was kidding! Of course he knows there are as many formats possible in Spanish as in English.

XCFan13:

1) It would be good to see WKTU takeover 92.3FM. WXRK-Rock is a failing station.
2) Why drop Spanish AC on WPAT-FM 93.1?
3) Keep WNYC 93.9FM.
4) WFME 94.7FM should remain a Christian station.
5) Keep 96.3FM Classical.
6)97.9FM is doing well with their Mega format. Why change it to Hurban? WCAA 105.9FM/WZAA 92.7FM has filled that void.
7)102.7FM WNEW. AC/Standards would be the ideal format for that frequency. But that's not going to happen.
8) Country on WYNY 103.5FM if they could move WKTU down to 92.3FM.
9) Clear Channel is doing well with Power 105.1 WWPR-FM with its Hip Hop format.

Re: Country in NYC

That was years ago. Currently, country is a very popular format and country stations typically do pretty well in the Arbs. The closest country stations to NYC are in Philly and Hartford. Granted, a country station on one of NYC's blowtorch FMs may do moderately well in the New York book itself, but would probably do very well in the suburban tri-state markets, especially since there is no competition for the country market anywhere. The old WYNY may have failed, but is WNEW doing any better?

COuntry was more popular in the mid 90's when it failed on 103.6 than it is now. The market is also more diverse than it was then. Not to mention countrty has also failed on Long Island with MJC. Country would probably do well in Jersey, but thats about it.

< 1) It would be good to see WKTU takeover 92.3FM. WXRK-Rock

K-Rock incidentally performed fairly well in the latest Arbitrend. I'd give their mainstream Rock format, as much as I (or you) may dislike it, alot more time before proclaiming it as "failing".

Country not doing well in ethnic markets

In the top ethnic markets country is actually failing. San Francisco recently lost it's country station for the 2nd time in 5 years. KZLA in Los Angeles is in trouble and WKIS, Miami isn't doing too well either.
Now would not be the time to try a risky format in a city as ethnically diverse as New York. The New Jersey suburbs could support a country station but alot of western Jersey can already pick up WCTO out of Allentown, PA.
In addition as has been discussed over and over, New Yorkers in general are biast towards the format. Say what you will about WNEW, advertisers are more likely to bite with a classic dance station than country in this market.
