I'm listening to Roberto Clemente Jr. on 104.7 right now.
How long has this been going on? And what took so long?
When I heard Roberto Clemente Jr. was doing Spanish Play-by-Play for the Yankees, the first thing I thought was "Why isn't he calling play-by-play in any language for the Pirates?" Certainly Pittsburgh would seem to be a more sympathetic market for Clemente and it would seem a losing franchise would want to maintain any link they could to their glorious past, whereas with the Yankees he was just another face in the crowd.
And while Clemente was out there, we'd struggle here in Pittsburgh and listen to the typical average sportswriter trying to do radio or WEAE trying to shock us to listen to them.
Okay, there are a few too many 50 somethings calling up and saying "Your dad was the greatest player I've ever seen!"
Still, Clemente is a respected baseball reporter who is able to get top notch guests.
This should have happened a long time ago!
