Thanksgiving is coming, which means the noontime onslaught of the folkie perennial "Alices Restaurant" by Arlo Guthrie.
Let's see how many stations DON'T play it this year. Unless you're an Oldies station (or AAA or NPR) there is absolutely no reason to be playing this song anymore. Many stations haul it out each year using the weak logic "well, that's what we've always done." As time has progressed, the song has lost its relevance and really has very little to do with Thanksgiving itself anyhow.
I've been a champion of the tradition before (and may have been in denial the past few years) but some 40 years on, it's time to move on. Sorry.
