A to Z's Have It

World Of Our Own--Seekers
World Is A Ghetto--War
World Through A Tear--Neil Sedaka
World We Knew--Frank Sinatra
Worried Man--Kingston Trio
Worst That Could Happen--Brooklyn Bridge

I live for songs about "Worst." (There's probably a "liver-worst" pun in there...but, even for me, that would be bad!)

Worse Comes To Worst - Billy Joel
Worst Band In The World - 10cc
Worst Case Scenario - Joe
Worst Of Luck - Bobby Barnett
Worst Pies In London - Sweeney Todd cast

Would I Lie To You - Charles & Eddie
Wouldn't It Be Nice - Beach Boys
Wrapped Around Your Finger - Police
Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald - Gordon Lightfoot
Writing On the Wall - Adam Wade

I'll give someone else a chance to "guess" the only song to be a huge hit that starts withthe letter X. Drum roll please..........

We'll be back to our pop, rock and soul A to Z in a minute, but first, let's have a look at what was topping the country charts at this point in the alphabet ...

Would You Lay With Me (In a Field of Stone) -- Tanya Tucker
Write This Down -- George Strait
Wrong -- Waylon Jennings

I remembered Olivia Newton-John/ELO's Xanadu and Trisha Yearwood's XXX's & OOO's but I wracked my poor lil' brain and I couldn't think of any other "X" songs. (And I'm referring to the letter, not to the group with that name.) I had to get out the reference books for these:

X - Xzibit
X-Bitches - Ice Cube
X-Cello Rock - Louis Brooks & the Hi-Toppers
Xclusive - Her Sanity
X-Files - House Of Pain
X Gon' Give It To Ya - DMX
X Marks The Spot - Ziggy Marley
Xmas In February - Lou Reed
X Offender - Blondie
X-Rated Movie - Commodores
X-Temporaneous Boogie - Camille Howard
XXL - Keith Anderson
Xxplosive - Dr. Dre
X's & O's - David Allan Coe

Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich (whom we'll meet again in the Z's) had a big UK hit with "Xanadu" as well, but it was a completely different song from the Olivia Newton-John hit.

Frankie Lymon did a song called ABC's Of Love and I vaguely recall a (possibly late 1950s) song titled XYZ's Of Love but I can't find it listed anywhere. Help! Meanwhile, here are three more titles for the "X" files:

X - System Of A Down
X & Y - Coldplay
X-Ray Hamburger - Network

It appears that it has befallen unto me to begin the "Y" titles (not to be confused with former Colts/Giants/49ers quarterback Y.A. Tittle). In the Spanish-language titles, the "Y" means "and"; in the Mary Hopkin title, "Y" is the Welsh word for "the." I'm very educational today!

Y - Eydie Gorme
Y Andale - Linda Ronstadt
Y Blodyn Gwyn - Mary Hopkin
Y Pensar - Julio Iglesias
Y Sharp - Osibisa
Y Tu Conga - Gloria Estefan
Y Yu Jellin' Me - Kid 'N Play
Y Volveré - Vikki Carr
Ya Ya - Lee Dorsey
Ya Ya - Tommy James/Shondells
Ya Ya - Trini Lopez

Yeh Yeh--Georgie Fame
Yellow Balloon--Yellow Balloon
Yellow Bird--Arthur Lyman
Yellow River--Christie
Yellow Rose of Texas--Mitch Miller
Yes Sir I Can Boogie--Baccara
Yes We Can--Pointer Sisters

Year of the Cat -- Al Stewart
Years -- Barbara Mandrell
Yellow Rose of Texas -- Johnny Lee & Lane Brody
Yesterday -- Beatles
Yesterday, When I Was Young -- Roy Clark
Yesterday's Dreams -- Four Tops
Yesterday's Gone -- Chad & Jeremy
Yester-Me, Yester-You, Yesterday -- Stevie Wonder

In addition to Stevie Wonder's Yester-Me..., I found three more unusual "Yester" songs (and I'm not including any songs that were written by Association guitarist Jim Yester):

Yester Love - Miracles
Yestergroovin' - Chet Atkins
Yesternow - Miles Davis

Yes My Darling - Fats Domino
Yep - Duane Eddy
Yesiree - Dodie Steven
Y'All Come - Porter Waggoner

You Don't Know What You Got - Ral Donner
You Lost That Loving Feeling - Righteous Bros
You, You, You - Ames Brothers
You Are My Sunshine - Jimmy Davis Johnny & Hurricanes Duane Eddy with "friends" Waylon, Willie & Jessie

One more from the X files:

Yes I'm Ready -- KC and Teri DeSario
