A tribute to Elyria/Lorain Broadcast engineers

For "The Wave" format, this comes late, but I've felt for a long time that the quality of sound heard on 107.3 FM was the best in the entire Greater Cleveland area. Crystal clear, and that was important in that format. Now with the more Rock-centric "Boom", it may be less noticeable due to the way the music is produced, but nevertheless the quality of the signal remains high. Just today, in my car, I heard "Young Folks" by Peter, Bjorn and John... an AAA/alternative hit from last year. It is an impeccably produced recording and I heard some elements on WNWV that I otherwise only hear on my big speakers at home. An impressive sound quality-engineering feat. Congratulations are in order. Providing the best quality sound can be considered a service element, particularly for music stations.

Agreed, John. Much credit does go to their engineering staff. I think Glenn Smith is still there as CE after all these years. (boardop0930, feel free to correct me if I am wrong :) ... )

WEOL was also an AM stereo station from the late-80s to sometime in the mid-90s (and even had the script "stereo" as a part of their logo during that time)... and they still are a phenomenal sounding station, given the limitations of the AM band. In fact, WEOL, WOBL and WDLW all are great sounding AM stations in their own right (credit for the latter two goes to CE Tracy Liston and John Jenkinson).

It should be noted too that Ric Bennett has had plenty CE experience under his belt (and even helped to build the former Tower City studios that housed - at one point or another - WMMS, WHK, WMVX and WAKS back in 1992). I'm pretty sure he'll help to readjust the sound quality to best fit the AAA format.

I am glad some of you guys noticed that too. The HD2 and HD3 also sound really good considering they are sharing bandwidth with the HD1. Obviously they have some know how when it comes to sonic integrity. I truly appreciate a good sounding competitive audio signature. I am happy for Rocco and I wish them all the best.

Nate-

Glenn Smith is STILL the Chief Engineer for all 5 stations. Tim Pogacsnik is an Assistant Engineer, and I sometimes assist also.

I'm in Orange County, CA so I've been listening quite a bit online since the launch... A few tracks were very distorted and muddy.... The worst example was Wilco's "You Never Know"... Hopefully that's been corrected. Other than some of those muddy sounding tracks, sweepers, and Internet spots, not too bad audio online. I am listening right now on headphones and sounds very decent. Keep it up, Boom.

Wow... both Glenn and Tim are still there. lol. I remember seeing him as the engineer for WEOL's HSFB coverage during my high school years (a capacity currently held by Kevin Mayor and Jared Kozar).

Ric should be a really big help to the two of them. IMO, that's a heck of an engineering team.

Kevin Mayer is no longer with our company-he left in June or July. He found employment in the Early Childhood Education field in Columbus. He's definitely missed here at E.L.B.
