A used Rolex? Seriously?

98.7 The Fan's grand prize for their current contest is a used Rolex watch? That's the best they could do. Why not just offer $500 or $1000 cash.

If it is a genuine Rolex, it is worth more.

Besides, barter is better - just ask any radio person.

i think i know the ad you are reffering to. it allows the station to give away a pretty sweet prize, used or new. the jeweler gets to give away a prize that is "worth" x amount, but in reality they probably got the rolex either from some sort of trade in or repossession for much less than the value of the ad spots they are using it to pay for

CC for life - clearly you've never owned a rolex. I heard the live promo last week - and they are giving away gift cards to the jeweler as well every week during football season. And judging by the amount that particular jeweler appears to spend on tv and radio by the # of ads i see and hear, they aren't bartering the watch for ads. I'm guessing they are giving away a pre-owned item because they are not an authorized retailer of brand new Rolex products. Either way, a Rolex is a Rolex.

Give up your attacks on 98.7 The Fan......I listen to the station daily now, and a watch giveaway on the FM sounds 100% better than the tired old guys on the AM dial.

I'll go 5, if nothing else, just to try to win the Rolex.

i think you just nailed it, they may not be an authorized retailer for a new Rolex. As a matter of fact, i looked it up and there is only one dealer in all of tampa authorized to sell Rolex, and it's not the company doing the ads. Heck, in this market, there are only 3 retailers of Rolex around. One in Brandon, one in International Plaza and one in Sarasota

0.4, buddy. 0.4

It still "sounds" cool. We have a station near us giving away a "brand NEW Rolex 'tribute' timepiece"

(read as: Fake)

So a previously enjoyed Rolex..could still be very sweet indeed.

Reminds me of when my folks went to Hong Kong and my mom bought a bunch of fake Rolexes. The street peddler told her it had "genuine Seiko parts!" Sometimes that kind of brass deserves to be rewarded!

Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding! Not much more needs to be said. Although, with that line up I'm surprised it's that high.

If my Rolex is not real, then I'm out the 125 bucks I paid for it.
It is worth $45 on the streets.

Seriously, UCFknight....its pathetic how you continue to attack Mike Pepper. How about YOU tell everyone how deeply experfienced you are at running a radio station, and then we can all compare and be impressed with your wisdom and insight? Because, CBS Sports Radio exec's in NYC apparently think Pepper is a better fit than you are, which leads me to think your opinion is worthless.

good night.

Hey Raydeogeek(Jerry Petuck):

Thanks for responding to my posts. Mike Pepper has been a terrible program director and you know it. Stop sucking up to him. Is Pepper related to Brent Harmon? Harmon ran 910 WFNS(Sports Radio) into the ground, and Mike Pepper will continue to do the same at 98.7, the longer CBS keeps him around. Pepper is a poor evaluator of air talent. Nanci Donnellan's time has come and pasts, and Lynne Austin should have never been given a job in radio. Todd Wright hates everyone he works with and Rich Herrera, Mark Cook, Dave Weekly and Rock Riley are average at best. You should also talk to the sales director and tell him or her to hire a competent sales staff. The 0.4 share indicates a great effort by you and Mike Pepper. CBS is wasting a great deal of money on shiz radio in Tampa.

[EDIT-TOS violation]now lets assess your brilliant comments.....

1. you may or may not be correct about Mike Peppers ability to evaluate talent, and we will see in TIME, but I'd think the folks in NYC for CBS have some say over the on-air talent....not simply a local PD.
2. Unless I've missed something, Lynne Austin is only contributing station ID's and a Saturday morning show.
3. The Sports Babe is doing overnights according to the press releases (I don't listen past about 8pm)....a perfect spot for someone you think is past her time.
4. Todd Wright - you may be correct, maybe he does hate everyone. I don't know the guy beyond having heard his voice for years on Yahoo/Sporting News Network (broadcast from the 1010am studios in Tampa)
5. Herrera, Cook, Weekly and Riley all average? Well, 3 of the 4 are fill-in's or see limited action. I'd not expect 2nd or 3rd string to be the best and brightest. Herrera - ? Well again - 4 months into it, and I'm told he and Booger have the best rated show on the station. what that means over the long haul, we shall see.
6. Sales ? How does sales have any bearing on the discussion?
7. .4 share? in what demo? I've not seen that high of a rating yet....must have missed it in the wash of .1's and .2's.

lastly - IMHO, I don't know if they are wasting money yet or not. If and when they pick up a pro team for PBP, we will get the best picture of the future of the station...until then, it's a monthly growing game to see what happens.

With regard to sales, I'm hearing a lot of PSA's and Per Inquiries on the Sunday Afternoon Dial Global NFL games. The AM and FM carry different games; one would think they'd be able to get some local biz in there or comp some of their better advertisers.
