A very cool RDS in Madison WI

So I recently got an HD radio, and it even has RDS

I found this really cool thing going on with two radio stations owned by iHeartRadio

I’m guessing the stations have a master station that is feeding these two stations judging by the mixture of content in the RDS information.

Interesting that neither KDTI and KCRW are iHeartMedia radio stations. The former is an EMF K-love outlet and the other is a Socal NPR affiliate owned by a college.

Most iHeart stations use a modified PI code that starts with "1," for reasons related to a traffic data service they transmit.

Some radios try to interpret that modified PI code back into call letters, which is how you get *KDTI" instead of WIBA.

It's a known issue.
