A VERY SAD DAY

I was just notified today, that my mentor.... (someone who became almost like a 2nd father to me)....
DAVE MCCLURE, passed away just the other day, (complications with his heart).

Dave McClure was the long-time (20 years or so) General Manager of WCTQ-FM/WAMR-AM. His office, was in the back of the old studio's on Auburn Rd. in Venice. Dave is the guy that gave my start in broadcasting with my first internship.... then, he was the first peron to hire me in the world of broadcasting. He saw more in me, than I saw in myself. I only cared about doing sports (as I began my radio career). However, Dave thought I would be a great "personality" and didn't want me to limit myself to just sports. After years and years, in the top 3 in ratings and even a few #1 rankings (in AM & PM Drive in the Sarasota market)... I owe alot (if not most) of that success to Mr. Dave McClure.

Dave's vision, leadership and guidance was incredible. Dave was a true live and local broadcaster. He loved grooming talent and was the #1 believer in broadcasting local high school sports on the radio. Dave tried the corporate radio thing (after CC bought us) a few years ago and accepted a promotion to run the CC Cluster in Melbourne, FL (after a year or so), Dave decided he missed live and local radio. Dave has been the Sales Manager for WENG-AM in Engelwood for a number of years ago. Dave was simply, a true broadcaster...

Dave was a true gentelman a great broadcaster and a great friend. The world has lost a great man. I will miss him, very much. He was a class act.

Dave, Thank you....

Maverick

I was by the 1320 transmitter site the other day. It is sad to see how the grounds and building have deteriorated. There are some substantial trees and bushes growing in the ground system, and it doesnt look like a bush hog has been thru there in a long time. I know CC was planning on selling the site, dont know if they have or not bus sure could use some TLC

I actually had an opportunity to work with Dave at ClearChannel and at WENG. Talk about a true professional. Somebody that really "got it" when it came to the sales and programming sides of the stations. He will be missed!
