A Visit To Lady Lake!

The other day I had the opportunity to visit with a client in Lady Lake. I don't really enjoy going there, for various client related reasons which are not important here. However, the negativity of that matter is ALWAYS overshadowed by one of life's greatest experiences...listening to WVLG.

WVLG has been discussed on this board before but let me add my two or three cents. WVLG is simply the BEST PROGRAMMED STATION in Central Florida! It may even be BEST IN FLORIDA! I don't care how many know nothing consultants you Orlando market stations use, none of you...none of you even come close to WVLG.

It was somewhat strange not hearing a collection of Rush Limbaugh clones and wanna be's. Nor did I hear all the yapping by the liberals. Someone please answer this...how many times can you blame the president for everything? How many times can you blame the Republicans for all the world's problems? Without regard to the political spectrum, you listen 15 minutes to one and you've heard them all!
Just imagine a format where you play the same song over and over. You have exactly the same results as today's radio...one reason the medium is circling the drain.

But that's not all...

I heard local involvment...local weather done live...local time checks and I heard local advertisers. (Golly, I wonder why?) I heard real live local people talking like real live local people and I felt like I was a part of that station as they were a part of me. Which reminds me of a liner I used to use...when radio meant something...
"W---! A Part of You, Because You're a Part of Us!"

I didn't hear any infomercials with phoney products hawked by chiropractors trying to sound like real medical doctors, insinuating their "natural" product just discovered will cure EVERYTHING!

I didn't hear any spots with the phone number repeated 4 or 5 times at the end. I suppose WVLG has standards which are much, much higher than anything in Orlando.

If you haven't had the opportunty, give WVLG a listen. Without a doubt running rings around ANY Orlando station!

I have to agree. WVLG is what radio should be. This is what "live and local" really is. They have a class act going on up there in the Villages.

I'll be listening to WVLG tomorrow afternoon, most of Saturday, Sunday and Monday; it's one of the few times; I listen to terrestrial radio....... when I visit my parents. They live about 30 miles from The Villages, but WVLG puts out a pretty good signal. (unfortunately not good enough to overcome Radio Havana on 640 and/or the IBOC hash from 620, from where I live on the southern fringe of downtown St. Petersburg.

WVLG is live and local 24 hours a day; although from 1am - 6am, they run a slightly softer format; sort of a hybrid of soft standards and light jazz, whereas during the day the are the best of the 50
s through the 70's with some early 80's thrown in. The only talk they have is one hour a day; a program called "Focus on the Villages"' can't remember if it runs noon to 1pm or 1pm to 2pm. (Focus on The Villages is not a political show; they have different guest on and do get plenty of callers, discussing events in the Villages, Gardening, community events, Social Security etc)

I just wish they could slightly increase their day and night power levels; I realize that due to the 640 in Palm Beach county, that they couldn't increase their power all that much, but I would love to see them go 3,000 watts day and 1,500 watts night to improve the reception in outlying areas and to give more people the chance to hear, what I think is the best programmed AM station in all of Florida.

Yes!!! WVLG is defanatly the best!!! this is how radio should be. none of these stupid comercials and no voice tracking. life and local. i hope a lot of people listen to this station. a lot of these so called radio companies can learn a lot from this station. i bet if sunny 1059 was like that here they would have good ratings. i honestly think that is what people want. live and local. not some prerecorded voice tracks and no local info. go wvlg! show these people what radio really is. i can wvlg pretty well here in altamonte. I have to go outside to hear it but it is sooooo worth it. wvlg is the best station i have ever heard!!! purely amazing. a nice change from normal radio.
