AA 3.0 Help Emmett! WAV file now UPPER CASE?

For some weird reason yesterday I noticed that when I save a file as a wav file the extension is UPPER CASE (.WAV) My other machines running AA 3.0 don't do this and as far as I can tell I haven't done anything different with this machine to cause this. It is a problem because all of my html templates that I use to create menus for my clients to download files use the lowe case (.wav) format. Apparently there is a major difference when someone tries to download and the cases are different.

How do I fix this?

Hey Jeff,

It should (I repeat, SHOULD) be as simple as saving one file with the extention the way you want it. For example, instead of titling a file 'jeff1', title it with the extension, 'jeff1.wav'. Make sure you type it lowercase. After that, it should default back to being lowercase.

I've seen similar things happen where someone accidentally types '.mp3' while saving a wav file and then all waves carry an mp3 extension until someone retypes the file name with the .wav extension. THAT'S always interesting!

Hope that does it for ya!

Hey Jeff follow Emmet's instructions, I've had that happen before and that's how I fixed it, and If I'm not mistaken I think it was Emmett who told me. I think he may have secretly created Cool Edit Pro, and just isn't bragging about it... lol

That did the trick..Kinda like how AA will revert to the last directory if you open a file from another one from where you usually keep your audio..and all of a sudden everything saves in that other directory

HUH?

you know what I mean.

Thanks guys..saved a test file with a .wav extension and it saved all following files with .wav (lower case) Perfect!

I know exactly what you mean. To me, the way sessions and files are saved, opened and handled is one of the programs biggest flaws. I hate saving AA sessions. I hate it so much, in fact, that I almost never do it! I've just gotten to the point where I would rather just recut an entire spot than go to the trouble of saving the session. I only save a session if I've spent more than 45 minutes on a spot, which is very rare. I've been burned a few times, but most of the time I'm very satisfied with the way I work.

What I think would be cool, is if AA used some sort of proprietary 'zipping' function that saved the session and all files into one single zip-like file. I don't know if it could ever work properly or not, but it's a nice idea.

From a programming perspective, creating a single "zip file" for a session would be very practical and usable (broadly speaking, I have no idea how the AA code works).

I may be misunderstanding your posts but there IS a way to save a session and all of the elements in the session in AA 3.0.

In the "Save Session" dialog box at the bottom left-hand corner there is a checkbox that says "Save Copies of All Associated Files".

If you check that box, a copy of each of the files you have used for that session will be saved in the same folder that you save the session itself. You can also specify the format you wish to save the files as by clicking the options button to the right of that.

I work with audition waaaaaaaaaaay too much. Ask me about my 2 hour conversation with Adobe about the "timers" function not working in AA 2.0...very necessary when you're trying to set segue tones for automations like mediatouch.

Oh of course there's that function, but what I'm suggesting is basically a session file that has all audio wrapped inside of it. One single file that stores audio and related data in a proprietary, compressed, lossless format. I work with Adobe on prerelease versions of AA, so I know the program as it is now inside and out. I just don't know, from a programming standpoint, if a wrapped session file is even possible within the AA architecture. For some projects, you'd still want to save in the traditional way, but I think an option to save to a single file would be a very handy tool, especially in a networked radio environment. As far as I know, no software currently offers a feature like this.
