AAA in Buffalo?

I don't post much here but am an avid reader of this site. There's another board here that deals with the AAA (adult album alternative) format that sounds interesting. Would any station consider going to that format? Has anyone tried it in the past or is it something that's just not for this area?

You can get it now on WBFO's HD2 signal. They are running the Xponetial feed that WXPN produces for NPR
Which quite likely means not too many average, non-radio, non-geekazoid people are hearing it. And isn't it sad that a station as well-regarded as WBFO is taking the easy way out, picking up programming off the bird. Not that it's doing something that any self-repecting commercial station wouldn't do. Pity, really.

I thought there was hope that THE LAKE would add a couple of current artists when it debuted. Alas....no.

Look at the "Thursday in the Square" lineup and elsewhere around Buffalo. We're getting some really talented artists visting our area. It's a shame they aren't played on the radio. Oh, well there's always satellite radio.

How's AAA doing in other markets? It might be worth looking into. Wasn't The River essentially AAA in one of its incarnations?

Yes, and it was at 101.1 at the time, not it's current position at 105.1, maintaining the AC format it does currently.

Niner, in defense of WBFO's airing of Xponential radio on its HD2 channel, please keep in mind that HD doesn't yet justify the expenditure of money it would take to operate the channel with a local staff and format. NPR is making available various formats (classical, jazz, news/talk and AAA) at little cost that stations can put on their HD channels. If such a service were not available, public stations throughout the country would be mirroring their main programming on their HD2 channels.

Also know that WBFO received a state music grant from the payola settlement that is allowing the station to begin a series of local music programs. Starting in October, WBFO will air a weekly concert at 8pm Wednesdays, live from its Allen Hall auditorium, featuring local bands. Then, Fridays at 8, the station will run "Buffalo Avenues," a one-hour local music program with artist interviews and music. From what I hear, both shows will be replayed throughout the week on WBFO HD2.

One other note. While most people haven't purchased an HD radio yet, the Xponential feed is available on WBFO's website, making it available to anyone with a computer.

Valid points. And thanks for the background information. Nice to know the SONY, Clear Channel, Entercom and Citadel payola blood money is being used for something worthwhile, altough I still believe public radio should lead rather than follow with locally originated HD-2 programming.

I don't know. I've worked for AAA in Buffalo, as my "day job" for 17 years. However we do have a select audience of tow truck drivers!
