AAA Radio in Rhode Island

When WPRO-FM's HD is off, 92.5 is usually a mixture between WXRV and WWYZ.
When the summer tropo conditions come up, WXTU from Philadelphia can sometimes come in.

A couple years ago on a warm summer evening I was able to pick up WXRV pretty clearly driving along Rt. 4 in the North Kingstown area. And yes, PRO-FM was also broadcasting. That same night, I tried several other frequencies and was able to get 97.5 WOKQ, 102.9 WBLM, 94.9 WHOM, and 102.1 WSAK (The Shark). I don't remember if I tried 100.3 WHEB but I'd imagine it would have been a battle between them and WKKB.

During the summer, the 97.5 frequency is often a battle between WOKQ/Portsmouth and WALK/Long Island. There are some nights in which one clearly beats out the other. When there is good northbound tropo, Q 97.9/Portland is often an easy pick-up.

They tried a AAA/bluesy-type format on 99.3 WERI back in the mid to late 90s, after WBLQ and before Swing FM. There's also the WMVY translator on 96.5 in Newport. They should put a AAA-format station on 99.7, as right now the signal is being wasted on a simulcast of WPRO. 630 WPRO has a good signal the way it is. Economically, you could probably run the station jockless, but I would rather see some jocks on such a station. The fact that RI is using 2 of his better FM signals for talk/sports radio is just terrible in my mind. Boston is about to have 3 major FM signals broadcasting talk/sports programming. Just ridiculous.

Scott Burns, when is the last time you were in South County, RI, specifically Westerly? WPRO-AM has NO signal at night down here.

Dan, I am in South County as I write this (albeit in Narragansett, not Westerly). I have not tuned into WPRO in the Westerly area in quite some time, so in all honesty, for me to comment on the station's reception in Westerly would not be worthwhile.
