AAR gets its first HD Radio affiliate

Sheridan, WY - KYTI-FM HD 93.7-3 FM

Not a powerhouse, but an interesting first, AFAIK, of News/Talk appearing on an HD channel for an FM with (presumably) a different primary format (in this case, I can't figure out what that format is -- anyone know what "93, The Coyote" uses?)

Looking for information about KYTI-FM's format, I came across this web site dedicated to covering the growth of HD Radio in Wyoming:

Ya know, just the other day I was wondering if liberal talk would wind up on HD subchannels in markets without the format. Or if syndicators such as AAR would go for it.

Granted, virtually nobody has an HD radio in their car, but I guess it's like the early days of FM, where stations just played taped programming, did niche programming or simulcasted their AM signals, since there was little way for most people to actually listen.

Well, we all gotta start somewhere, right?

And as far as news/talk is concerned, I have heard of all-news popping up on a few HD subchannels, particularly WLTE-FM in Minneapolis.
 
I think this is a great idea to offer a wide range of alternate formats on the subchannels. Unfortunately, I have a feeling their listeners are probably in the dozens at most, considering there is hardly a wide supply of HD radios out there, and in Wyoming yet....
 
I think if AAR hadn't screwed the pooch with Sirius, I would be listening. They really have to fix that.

The future of HD radio no doubt will be like the fate that AM stereo met. Fitting place for liberal talk.
