AAR loses another affiliate to religion

WKBF 1270 Rock Island IL (Quad Cities) is being sold, new owner plans to drop liberal talk and put on a religious format.

Article in Quad Cities Times says station had the lowest ratings in the market. It was owned by Mercury Broadcasting, but LMAed to Clear Channel. Sale price was $150K, which is awfully low for a 5kw full-time station.
http://www.qctimes.com/articles/2006/10/20/news/business/doc4538500780568379920871.txt

This was one of the last stations CC converted to progressive talk. It's been running AAR, Miller, Schultz.

Was just about to post this...there are comments after the article too. (And the fact that Miller and Schulz
were on it means it's not just AAR but a general prog-talk station)

CC was over the station limit in QC. Since they LMA WKBF, the FCC determined that they owned too many stations there. WKBF was most expendable, and it was bought by a guy who wants to put on a Christian-oriented format.

Mercury (which seems to basically be an arm of CC) also sold a QC FM station not too long ago (to EMF).

Yeah. Like the fact that because the station was so low in the ratings with its lefty talk format and as a result, probably billed very, very low, it only sold for 150 grand. Important facts indeed.

Well, we've heard one of five stages of acceptance ;)

First comes Denial and isolation: " what! another affiliate gone?! NO WAY! ...why?! "
followed by Anger: " someone MUST be behind this! How DARE they take AAR off the airwaves!!"
then Bargaining: " well, they never promoted it! it was the signal's fault! it can work! ..let's all sign a petition.. "
then Depression: "I really miss Springer in the am. "

to get to the final stage Acceptance " well.....we still got NPR. " ;)

I don't think that any of the liberals who post on this board are losing any sleep about the loss of flea bag station in the Quad City market which accounts for one tenth of one per cent of US radio listeners. It's interesting that you had to attach your post to another right wing zinger.

Congratulations Frenchie! [EDIT]

but for those that kill in cold blood~buh bye!

show some 'compassion' for our Gallic friend

Barooks, you're right. In my post when I referred to "lefty talk radio" I wasn't talking about radio, I was talking about soybean processing.

My problem with Frenchie is that he only makes right wing political comments when he posts on this board. He has never contributed one item that has anything to do with talk radio.
