Don't hold your breath
This "article" is from a self-described "radical" blog-site run by Tennessee Independent Media Center (not from a newspaper). Their positioning statment says: "The Independent Media Center is a global network of collectively run media outlets for the creation of radical, accurate, and passionate tellings of truth."
This story is about a group of radio activists holding a meeting; it is not about the business of radio. The writer does not seem to be able to tell the difference between a couple of non-commercial FM stations which carry "community" radio programs (activists doing the equivalent of public access cable)plus some programming from Pacifica Radio, and commercial talk radio. The article gives no indication that any commercial station in the market is seriously considering the progressive talk format, but these activists are having fun holding meetings.
The newspaper writer, who does not appear well informed about talk radio or politics, says this "is the first attempt by liberal democrats to take a swing at the mainstream talk radio market" (it was not the first)and wonders how well AAR will fit "conservative political environment in Tennessee." This is the same state which has elected two generations of Gores to the U.S. Senate, as well as other DLC types to various offices. AAR is not the voice of liberal democrats, it holds to the DLC line and should fit in well with how Nashville votes - although perhaps not with the beliefs of these activists, who most likely have never heard AAR programming.
