AAR offers Maron for Syndication

All Access reports AAR's Syndication division is offering former AAR Network "Morning Sedition" co-host's late night program from LA to stations.

AIR AMERICA SYNDICATION has announced that it will begin offering CLEAR CHANNEL KTLK-A (PROGRESSIVE TALK 1150)/LOS ANGELES' nightly "THE MARC MARON SHOW" for syndication, effective MONDAY, APRIL 17th. Comedian MARC MARON -- former co-host of "MORNING SEDITION -- returned to the network on FEBRUARY 28 (see NET NEWS 2/24).

The program will be recorded 3p-5p PT. It will be available via the AAR affiliate FTP site and will also be fed to the satellite at 10p ET (on the right side of the WW 1 channel).

The satellite feed of Maron's program competes for station clearances with Mike Malloy on the AAR network feed. It also is up against WOR's Lionel, Fox's Alan Colmes and Premiere's Phil Hendrie for clearances on progressive talk stations. Late nights are getting crowded.

Now we have competing progressive talk programming in every daypart (excluding overnights):

6am-9am Reilly/Maddow - Bill Press
9am-12n Jerry Springer - Stephanie Miller
12n-3pm Al Franken - Thom Hartmann
3pm-6pm Randi Rhodes - Ed Schultz
6pm-7pm Randi Rhodes - Peter B. Collins
7pm-9pm Majority Rpt - Peter B. Collins
9pm-10p Majority Rpt -
10p-1am Malloy - Maron - Lionel - Colmes - Hendrie

Survival of the fittest.

Hendrie is "Progressive Talk"?

I don't think so.
______________

He is on several progressive talk stations. That makes him a player in the battle for clearances on progressive talk stations.

Maybe Clear Channel/Premiere puts him on some of their PT stations for business reasons. Maybe some stations think a more comedy-oriented show will work better in the evening or late evening as a break from straight political talk. However Hendrie got on, he's there.

Hendrie in person is a relatively liberal guy, but that notwithstanding, this notion that liberals want balls-to-the-wall liberal talk 24/7 is a bit silly... plenty of conservative stations realize entertainment shows are a nice change of pace at night. And then there's C2C...
